who beg for money to feed and house the children of foreign countries but they don't spend one second to ask for help for all the thousands who are homeless in America? I spent 8 1/2 years of my own life being homeless and hungry and found religons to be nothing more than hypocrites when it come to helping the plight of the needy in this country. When will "America's" religious begin to take on the situation of so many homeless persons suffering and doing without???

I can see by alot of the answers, many have not been homeless to know HOW people cope. TEMPORARY "fixes" are not "solutions" and many time I would go to the Salvation Army or a church down and out. Many times I would get a bag or beans or rice or Kramen. What could "I" do with UNCOOKED food with no place to cook it?, not to mention canned goods where I had no opener.
My common law wife and I could never spend a night at a mission or Salvation Army without being "judged." I read ANSWERS from many who know of temporary fixes given by churches but not many who see the THOUSANDS who are still in the streets. I am "dying" now so, I am in no position to help........

I don't know where you are that no one reached out tohelp you...that is sad and I'm sorry you suffered for so long. Around here there are several homeless shelters and ministries for crisis assistance all run and supported by local churches.
I agree that homeless/hungry ministries, as well as our governmental support, need to make local and national assistance a priority. However, we have to keep in mind, too, that one of the primary responsibilities of Christians is not only to care for and feed the hungry, but to bring the truth of the Gospel to those who have never received it.That'swhy global missions are emphasized, often, I think.
I am glad for you that you are in a better situation now.

Matthew 25:35, 36 mentions these basics:
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in [literally, led me with], I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
There's not any mentions here of getting people set up in new lifestyles or anything like that. In fact, when this has happened to me, it's been totally oppressive. Everybody is set up in lifestyles in the world. That's what cults do - Christian and otherwise. The governments are not there to tell people what lifestyle to live. They have two jobs from a Christian perspective. This doesn't mean that Christians tell them what to do. It means that this is supposed to be Christian theology - to avoid a fight by recognising the correlation between the price Jesus paid and the law of love, and the government's administration of taxes and the law that keeps people in line hopefully (Romans 13).
It's not so much not having somewhere to sleep for the night. Luke 9:58 - "Jesus replied, 'Foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.'" For a cult to leave somebody outside for the night though, or even inside, that person must be in the bad books and this is the problem. Cults mean that everybody has allegiance to the cult leader before any other relationships in their lives, such as family. Friends come from within the cult, although there is an entire system in the world, known as mythology, that helps cults mix it up a bit with each other.
The ministries who want the money for land to put children into homes are like Judas, who thought that the woman who put spikenard ointment on Jesus was wasting resources and it should have gone to the poor. People do have the nous to deal with the many issues in their lives so long as they get the very basics - not having their families split up.

Many religions do.
One easy and excellent example is the Salvation Army, which has a miniscule administrative budget, and all funds donated for the poor actually go to the poor. In many communities, they are the primary source for shelter care, food, food pantries, and emergency assistance.
In many large cities, there are other religious organizations that operate rescue missions, which include meals, food pantries, and shelter for the night.
Its not perfect, but at least some religions take seriously the Bible's command that "whatsover you do for the least of these, my bretheren, that you do unto me."
Good luck.

I don't know of any churches that don't in some way support homeless/hunger ministries. Most don't give out cash to every person that comes asking...

Not all of the money goes to the described cause. They line their pockets first. The Ministries pay no taxes and are not required to give financial disclosure. Its a shame that God has lost the ability to produce manna.

God wants to prove Himself to you,...
so,......
GET some HOPE in your heart.
Go to God with your problem--He is RIGHT THERE TO HELP YOU---but you HAVE TO BELIEVE THAT HE WILL!
Our church would help someone with a place to stay--(a hotel room)--and give groceries.
