Americans tend to have the belief that we are the best country in the world. We can have no problems because we're the best. We're the richest, so we don't have poor people, at least not like the rest of the world does. We don't have problems with abuse, poverty, or bad education because we're better than everybody else.

It's this sort of idiotic nonesense that is causing so many problems in our country. It's this sort of thought that has caused the government assistance programs to be cut, forcing people to starve in the streets because there was no where else for them to go. It's thoughts like this that send children back to abusive parents time and time again because we're AMERICA, we can't have problems like those OTHER places do.

Agencies of the US government do not help everyone. Many problems areas go ignored in the world. This is not to say the government should try to intervene everywhere--but, just to be clear, it does not do so.

Also, many Americans do help their own. Many people perform charity work. Many Federal and state agencies work hard to serve the public good.

Unfortunately, an inordinate and obnoxious amount of money is being poorly spent on a certain region of the world, money that would could be much better spent by the government by investing in the country's own people.

To make themselves look good. But there are plenty of people here in America who live in conditions comparable to a third world country. Not that non-Americans don't need help, but a lot needs to be done here too, i.e. living conditions, education, health care, etc.

Good question. Not sure but it really is ridiculous to be a "super power" and not be able to have good health care for the people of this country. Or places to live. Or food to eat. It is literally true that we have so many rich people in this country who continue to get richer while the poor continually become more and more impoverished. Let's email President Bush and ask him that question.

Very good question, but I happen to be one of the people that likes to help the people here first and help in other countries second. There are many people in great need right here in our own towns and cities and if we can stretch further then that is great. I give this one a star..

Americans like Bill Gates spend billions of dollars on non-American countries to help but it's evident that America is losing it's wealth to bunch of dorkiest countries like Israel and India.

Actually that's not true. Foreign Aid is miniscule compared to the Military budget.

False assumption. There are plenty of charity efforts and groups right here at home.

Note that I didn't say a word about how successful they were...
