I'm in the Air Force and i was wondering why is it that when we get deployed, we stay in 5 star hotels and the Army and Marines stay in tents??

I was deployed to guan and I stayed in the Hyatt Regnecy.. That was amazing as heck..

The Air Force makes agreements with hotels. They don't pay full price for the rooms. This helps the AF by having good rooms for their people, and helps the hotel by having some income from a room that might otherwise be empty. This is definitely normal and not a reason to call the Fraud, Waste and Abuse hotline.

The Air Force actually takes care of its people!

Its a difference of mission. Not all Air Force persons stay in hotels..I never did when I was in the Air Force (I was an SP though.) The Air Force is not a ground based fighting force, and is primarily responsible for air power, supply and transport. grunts stay in tents. But Special Operations in the Army (not to be confused with the Special Forces) such as the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment aka the "Nightstalkers" also stay in hotels when deployed.

Sometimes, there are only so many rooms to go around. If there is not billeting on base, then there aer contract quarters in hotels off-base. You were fortunate to have gotten those quarters.

The Army and Marines do not always stay in tents and the Air Force does not always stay in "5-Star Hotels". When I was in Red Horse, we would deploy and build our own facilities-usually GP-Medium Tents and if we had time, hardback tents.

Like I said, you were fortunate to stay in such a nice place, but it is not always the norm.

The Air Force is known for taking care of their own. And, I'm sure there were more considerations than just the star rating of the hotel you stayed in... security, military discount, proximity to your duty, etc.

And, for the record, the Army doesn't always stay in tents. Except for one trip, every time I ever went TDY (temporary duty) we stayed in a nice hotel, had a rental car, and were reimbursed for our meals. And, the one TDY I went on without a nice hotel... they put us up in barracks on another Army base.

My friend is an Army medic in Afghanistan. The Air Force personnel that work at his hospital stay in the same billets as he does. The only difference is that he is there for a year, and his Air Force counterparts only stay for 4-6 months at a time.

Guam is not a "real" deployment... try a combat zone! (Just a little inter-service teasing.)

The USAF is much bigger on morale than the other branches. My husband is in the Navy, but we live near an AFB and it is so much nicer and has so many more amenities than the Navy bases do.

BECAUSE YOU GUYS HAVE LESSER PEOPLE THAN THE ARMY. SO YOU CAN AFFORD TO STAY AT NICE PLACES. ALSO, THE ARMYS MISSION IS ABOUT COMBAT, NOT AMMENITIES. AS LONG AS WE HAVE THE BASICS, THAN WERE GOOD.
