Ah, the eternal question. Well, if you're in your teens, the answer is, you don't. You just beat them down for a few years until you (hopefully) grow out of them. Here's some ways to help:
1. Wash your face twice a day with a GENTLE cleanser.
2. After you wash your face, put some moisturizer on it. If your skin is too dry, it will produce more oil which will make the acne worse. A moisturizer keeps your skin moist without oil.
3. Once the moisturizer has soaked in, put pimple cream on the worst spots. Don't overdo it.
4. Change your pillowcase every other day. (Think about how much dirt and oil is on that thing that you put your face on every night!)
5. Don't obsess. Stress makes you break out more.
6. If you do these things and you're acne is still really severe, see a dermatologist. They can get you stronger medicines.
Taking care of your skin can be time-consuming, you have to be willing to put in the time and be patient. Acne doesn't vanish overnight, the bad stuff takes several weeks to completely go away.

The primary culprit is hormones, bacteria and genetics. However, good skin can help (washing skin twice a day and using an astringent product), and try not to touch your face. If your pimples are mild try a product with salicylic acid. If more severe consider benzoyl peroxide. Another less drying alternative are products with tea tree oil. The Body Shop makes a whole line of products with this ingredient.
You may want to consider a dermatologist if you can afford it. Accutane may be useful but it's been knoown to cause depression in teens, so be cautious. There are other prescription rememedies that may help without the side affects of accutane.
Good luck!

I used pro active solutions and it did not work for me either. I went to the doctor and they have me some stuff that worked but it made my face so dry, it peeled and burned and made my face tight. My face is finally better and I recommend using a light facial soap like Ivory bar soap which is all natural and wash a couple of times a day, it really will help or Neutrogena soap works well and Clean And Clear soap works good too and MUCH better than pro active.
I recommend to use one of those soaps mentioned above and then follow with Clearasil acne solution, you can buy at any department store or srug store. If it is too strong and your face starts to peel or burn that try a less harsh soap but continue using Clearasil because it worked well for me.

Try seeing a dermatologist. If not, Cetaphil foaming facial cleanser for normal to oily skin works in combination with a bi-weekly facial scrub and just spot treating the pimples. Murad acne spot treatment is the best!

I use Spot Remover from Origins. It's like $10 bucks a bottle but I really do swear by it. It lasts a long time (don't be fooled by the size of the bottle) and its really really good. Pimples are gone really fast (next day sometimes - Depends on size).
Also as a preventative care drinks lots of water (get at least your 8 glasses a day) and try to eat less greasy foods.
Honest that Spot Remover is a miracle worker.
Good Luck.

You tried proactiv and it didnt help? That almost helps everybody including me. You must have oily skin. This willh help though. Do not touch your face with your hands because they are oily and dirty which will clog your pores and pimples will eventually form. Try this and I guiarantee it will work. Don't worry or give up if it doesn't work right away. Give it some time. Miracles need time :)

Try as hard as you can, to keep your hands away from your face, your hands are dirty, and will only make it worse. Clean your face everyday, and at night before sleep. Get some acne medicine from your local drugstore, If you have really bad acne you can ask your doctor about "Duac Topical Gel" That you apply to your face daily.

I have had the worst problem with acne. I found that extra sleep, helped clear my face out a lot. Give it a try, go to bed early, and keep cleaning your face.

Seek professional help if you can, look for products that claim they are gentle. Try Oil of Olay's acne line (its in those lavender colored bottles), at a local drug store. Wash your face and but on an oil-free sunscreen in the day time- and Oil of Olay frag. free reginerist serum (its a tiny bottle, but lasts long) at night or rainy days. A good facial scrub will smooth your skin, too.
