Just wondering. I feel that we are attacked a lot (I am Christian). Maybe it’s because you guys feel attacked? If so then trust me - Christians are not trying to attack you. They are doing what they think will help you. Hope you guys can understand that.

Anyway - some opinions would be cool ...

I am atheist. I don't attack Christians or those who have beliefs. I admire it to be honest. I don't feel attacked either. I think the people who attack other people's religions are just like those people who bully other people because they are insecure with themselves. It's sad but when I am attacked I just dismiss it as ignorance.

"THEY ARE DOING WHAT THEY THINK WILL HELP YOU."
says it all. That is utterly arrogant and paternalistic. It is the attitude of missionaries who have gone around the world destroying civilisations in the name of Christianity when in fact they were just the front line troops of the followers coming to exploit a subdued and pliant population. This has been the main use of Christianity from the start. I'm not saying the missionaries were aware of what they were doing but they were funded by those exploiters.
Yep. I understand it very well.

John, you must be very, very young. Believers have taken over many of the governments of this world and are poised to destroy each other through war. Many Muslims believe that if they die while killing non-Muslims they will automatically go to heaven. Many Christians think that a world war will trigger the return of Jesus in the clouds. Jews are still waiting for the Messiah and feel as though they are entitled to the "Holy Land" because of some back-dated book about legendary heros that never actually existed. All three are completely and totally delusional.

As an atheist, I don't wish to see this self-fulfilling prophecy come true. God does not exist.

Of course, there is more to it. Christians in the country pass laws that prohibit me from purchasing beer on Sunday. What right do they have. Can an imaginary Being really prevent me from drinking? Apparently...

Christians in this country don't care about the environment (or at least the Republican ones) because they think Jesus will restore the Earth when he returns. This is a crock of BS. Jesus never existed either. And if he did, he's deader than a door nail.

Christians in this country are against the most promising medical breakthrough in history....stem cell research...because of some primitive mythology that says cell clusters have "souls".

I could go on...... abortion, birth control, STD vaccines....

I have no problems with God or a belief in God except in 3 instances:

1) Believers ignoring, disrespecting, or attacking my (or anyone's) right to not share their beliefs
2) Attempts by believers to have their religious beliefs or morals enforced on everyone through the political process, the courts, or the schools.
3) Claiming a religious perogative to express moral, cultural or political concepts that I find abhorrent (racism, homophobia, sexism, xenophobia to name some of the broader catagories)

Non-Christians (not just atheists) do not need or want your help. Can you not understand that? We want to be left alone to our own thoughts and beliefs and not be pestered to convert all the time by people who cannot get it through their heads that they do not have the only lock on truth.

People get so exasperated and frustrated by the constant, unending proselytization Christians carry on with that sometimes it boils over and they lash out. I know I've done it, and I'm not real proud of it, but, damn, man.

I am not trying to flame you - I am trying to explain in as plain a way as possible. You wanted opinions, and this is mine.

As a Christian - i could ask an analogous question for those of my comparable perception. Why do some of my Christian brothers and sisters, placed up questions in the direction of persons of alternative ideals, existence and non-ideals in the hateful attacking manor that's so evidently considered via all? Why do those people of my perception in Jesus Christ, attack, Condemn, Criticize and choose while my Savior Jesus Christ did not instruct one in all those factor? WHY! Sam a real Believer in my Savior Jesus Christ!

I just finished "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything" by Christopher Hitchens and understand if not agree with why Atheists fear religion. It boils down to the fact that they believe they only have one life on one world and when it's over it's over. From that viewpoint they feel there's nothing to kill or die for and would prefer not to get caught in the CROSS fire.

Other than because it is fun? It's like making a kid cry because you tell them theres no Santa, it just makes my sadistic side scream from joy(also my righteous side). Other than that i just enjoy debate, and to polish my belief system. Nothing better than fresh attacks form other people to have a solid belief system, you scrap the flimsy parts and keep the core that has withstood the most heavy criticism.

There's nothing better than to do good, speak the truth, and make people sad or angry by doing it, it feels soo good mwhahahahahhahahahaahhahha.

I would do some research before claiming Christians aren't attacking us. I don't believe in attacking others for their beliefs, but I do believe in the concept of eye for an eye-do unto me as you would have done unto you. So don't force-feed beliefs to anyone unless they specifically ask for information regarding those beliefs, and I'll grant the same to you.

I could say the same to you - we are trying to help you - to free you from your delusions. God devalues this life as nothing more than a test for the real deal - you don't even have any proof that there is a life after this one.

Anyway, I speak out against Christains because their belief affects my life. I don't like to see gay couples brought to tears because they are denied the right to get married. I don't like to see a young rape victim carrying around a baby she doesn't love because she wasn't given access to termination services.
I didn't like being forced to attend church as a child at school, I didn't like wasting my time in religious studies class.

If affects me everyday which is why I speak out against it.
