There are 6 main differences:
a) The type of rod. Fly fishing poles are longer and have thinner tips for greater control. They're so long they usually come apart into 2-3 segments for easier transporting.
b) The type of line. Fly fishing uses a thick line attached to a very thin line. The thin line is where the "fly" or bait is attached, and the thick line is what you reel in on the reel.
By contrast, regular fishing line is all of a consistent thickness.
c) The method of presentation. In regular fishing is to either drop your line in the water with a live bait, or cast it with an artificial bait and "pretend" to be a live bait by reeling it in. Fly fishermen spend much more time trying to get their artificial fly directly in front of the fish.
d) Fly fishermen usually get very close to the fish, and often wear hip waders so they can actually walk out into the stream. Regular fishermen fish from the bank or a boat.
e) Fly fishermen tend to think of themselves as craftsmen and often spend time tying their own flies and honing their craft. High-end flyrods can cost hundreds of dollars, whereas a regular fishing pole from Wal-Mart can cost $20.
f) The type of fish. Fly fishermen usually go for stream fish like trout and salmon while regular fishermen usually go to lakes, ponds, etc. and catch bass, crappie, bluegill, etc.
Hope that helps.

First off on a regular fishing pole you have the lure, the line, the rod, and reel. The pole cast the lure which is connected to the line which holds no importance except to keep the lure attached to the reel. The rod on a regular fishing pole is used to cast the lure, the longer the pole the longer and more accurate the cast, like when your trying to flip a crumb off a spoon. The reel on a regular is only use to hold the line and reel the fish in.
On a fly fishing rod and reel the same basic things are used. The only difference is your casting a fly (lure) which weighs almost nothing and if you were to tie one on a regular rod and reel you wouldn't be able to cast it. Therefore since you can't add weight to the fly they put the weight in the line. A common fly line (the colored line) is made out of braided nylon or something like that, then covered in PVC. Now that you have the casting weight problem fixed you have another problem, the line you use is too thick to tie the fly on and it will scare the fish away. So you tie a leader on line, a leader is ussally 7-9 ft. long and tappered wich means when it starts out at the fly line end it is very thick and gets smaller and smaller until it reaches the fly, the tappered fly line helps in placing the fly and carring the momentum of the energy realsed all the way to the fly.To be able to cast this line further and more accurately a fly pole is longer, more flexible, and lighter so your arm won't get as tired as fast. The reel is smiler to a regular reel in a since that for the most part all it dose is hold the line and reel in the fish.
So basicly they both work the same way except one is designed to cast a lure and one is designed to cast the line.

Fly fishing is generally done in steams where you can see the fish and cast your line in front of them or to an area close to bait them, lure fishing is done from the shore or a boat and you cast your line with a weight and bait attached and wait for a fish to swim by and bite it. Fly fishing is usually for the more experienced fishermen. Have fun

It depends on what sort of lure is used. With fly fishing a lure that looks like an insect is used to float on top of the water, and the rod is cast and recast to attract the fish, usually in a river or a creek. Fishing for trout or salmon is done by fly fishing.
If ur fishing in the ocean, live bait is used or just a piece of fish on the hook.

Fishing -- usually you use live bait, a worm or something. You put your rod in the water and just wait for the fish to strike.
Fly fishing -- you use 'fake' bait, a fake fly or bug that looks sort of real. You cast your bait into the water and then reel it in, over and over, until a fish takes the bait.

fly - you mess with the fish with your lure and snap the rod back and forth until a fish comes around the spot because it thinks its a bug doing touch and go's then you let it sit on the water as the fish attack it.
fishing - is just cast your rod and sit and wait for your lure to move
