Does anybody know what was the true story of the US 26th infantry division known as the Borinqueneers?

Who were they? Are they just legend or did they really exist?

They were the 65 Regiment who won all the honors possible for bravery and gallantry. Their home page is http://www.valerosos.com You should be very proud of them for their heroic deeds and for the blood they spilled on the battleground.

Valerosos means brave.

You may be refering to the 65th infantry.
