I know I'm supposed to call the police, but is there anything I can do to help the paramedics while they are on their way? Like soak him in Ice water or give him some kind of sugary food? I know it's a form of diabetes, I don't know anything else about it other than it instantly lowers blood sugar levels to a deadly amount no matter what he has eaten or when he has eaten it. I just want to know if I can help him in some way should he have another attack. Thanks!

First call 911. Second do not give him ANYTHING by mouth if he is unconscious and unable to swallow. He could choke Orange juice is a good start. If you live in an urban or suburban setting, EMS usually arrives pretty quickly. If you don't know what to do it would better to just stay with him than guess at doing something and making matters worse. If he takes insulin, sometimes in pill form, sometimes by injection, DO NOT GIVE IT TO HIM! Let EMS, who has the training do it. If his sugar is low and you give him his insulin, you would certainly do more harm. As for soaking him in ice water would do little good and could potentially do him harm. It is nor the right thing to do. Probably your safest bet would be to call 911. That is a surefire way to help.

Yipes! I've never heard of that, but it sounds pretty dangerous...

If your neighbor is still conscious and able to swallow, then give him some juice or a sugary soda to get his blood sugar up a bit.

If he's too drowsy to hold the cup himself, then he's probably too drowsy to swallow safely. Just keep him comfortable until the paramedics arrive. If he has a seizure (sometimes happens when a patient's blood sugar drops), move any chairs or other objects that he might hit with with his flailing limbs and hurt himself, and don't put anything in his mouth. When the seizure stops, roll him on his left side so he doesn't choke if he vomits. If he gets angry or belligerent (also occasionally happens when blood sugar drops), be sure to keep yourself safe, and if you feel comfortable, try to get him to sit down and wait for the paramedics.

The best thing you could do is ask your neighbor what he wants you to do for him if his blood sugar drops. He's probably more familiar with this disease than anybody you will find here, and will know the best course of action.

The best thing you can do is call for the rescue unit/ fire dept. "911" if available. Do not soak him in ice water as if he is conscious people with low blood sugar tend to be quite irritable and agitated and this will not help! LOL
On a serious note, if your neighbor is awake getting him a sugary snack (juice, candy, anything in a pinch ) would be great. A word of caution: NEVER put anything in the mouth of someone who is unconscious or who may have difficulty swallowing. They could aspirate (inhale the food/drink into their lungs) and this can cause severe injury and /or even death.
Recovery from these attacks is usually very fast, within minutes after sugar (oral or IV form) is given, it is amazing how fast they come out of it!

Assume that they are aware of there condition, then sprinkle sugar or something sweet and soluble into there mouth, you have to work on the fact that they've medicated themselves either with insulin or some form of medication and then overdone some form of exercise and there blood sugar level has collapsed, it should be a rare situation as you tend to get some severe indications before you collapse.

The first time it happened to me I'd been for a run, of about 8 miles and was showering, first of all i started feeling nauseous then started shaking, a guy in the guardroom had seen it before and forced me to eat a mars bar, and it was over in a matter of minutes, needless to say i was diagnosed type 2 diabetic within the week and i always pay attention to the signs now.

If you see me collapsed unconscious on the floor you'll see i wear a bracelet with the details, and i give you permission to sprinkle sugar into my gob, I can tell you I'd like to live.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.

I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

always assume the blood sugar levels are low. if he's conscious, give orange juice or non-diet soda, and protein...peanut butter, cottage cheese, string cheese, etc. severe low blood sugar levels can cause nausea and difficulty swallowing too. and call 911.

i've heard that if you're with someone when they have a diabetic related attack you should try and feed them honey, orange juice, or something high in sugar. but definitely call an ambulance.
