Emo hairstyles aren't hard. All you really have to do is cut your hair boy-short, get side bangs, and either dye the sidebangs or streak your entire head. If you don't like that, you can always cut your hair boy-short except for two strands near either side of your face, and then dye the bangs/streak the bangs. As to how to style them, there's only one way I know, and that's to spike them using gel or hairspray. Just apply the gel to the back of your head and try brushing it upwards with your hands to make it spike. If you use hairspray, just spray it all over the back of your head and brush it upwards with your hands. You can actually brush it any way you want until you're satisfied with how it looks, but you always start by brushing it upwards.
