i don't believe there is an entity outside ourselves that we can petition with prayer. i believe we're on our own to do our best with what we have to work with.

Archy, I think that we have levels of intensity for prayers, but I'm not sure God recognizes that. God hears all prayers of all the righteous (believers) through Jesus our intercessor. God answers all prayers. But we may not get the answer we wanted. God answers in his own time, for his timing is perfect. God only wants the very best for us, so if we ask for something that is not in our best interests we probably won't get it. Sometimes I think if we are persistent in praying for something that is not good for us, that God will give it to us just to show us that what we wanted wasn't that good or it wasn't what we really wanted in the first place. Then we suffer the consequences. Kitkat gave you some pretty good scripture references. Get your Bible out and look them up for yourself. Some of them need to be read in their full context. Here are a few others: Matthew 18:19 & 20 (where 2 or more stand in agreement). Mark 11:22 - 25 (have faith in what you ask for in prayer). 1Thessalonians 5:16 & 17 (pray without ceasing). Don't ever take anyone's word about what's in the Bible, (God's word & promises to you). Not even your clergymen, they are human and are capable of making mistakes. Read it for yourself. Use your concordance for quick references and also a good commentary can be very useful. God bless you.

The more Selfless the Prayer, the more possibilities it will get the right notice. Imagine if we were some Benevolent All-Loving Divinity...

MILLIONS and BILLIONS cry out to you screaming... " Me, Me, Me!!!! Give Me! Give Me! Give Me!" and a handful crying out " My World and all within" or " My Family, Friends, All whom i chance to meet and whatever I need most beneficial at this time"

As an all Compassion Deity, I would take note of the Noble prayers...

Unless of cause I was Malevolent, then it wouldn't matter anyway... if they don't kiss the very soil I walk on... I would wipe them out with a Rain of Fire from the skies or Strike them dead on the very spot they stand.... just cause they had a stray doubt that I am not Supreme... or less Supreme than a fellow god/goddess

When our prayers Sincerely involve benefitting more than just ourselves, it is more likely such a prayer would be heard and answer.

For example, a person who is strickened with Cancer Sincerely and with a Pure Heart prays for Healing for himself/herself and all in the vicinity that is suffering similar pain.

I feel ( just an opinion, not a guarantee ) the Divine ones are more likely to answer or grant such a prayer, because in hearing and granting a single prayer, the wishes of many are fulfilled.

In the book of Isaiah, it mentions that you have to have a clean heart before Christ can hear your prayers.

If you have a clean heart then God hears your prayers, just like all other Christians with a clean heart.

Pray often, incessantly, talking to God all day. Be quick to ask for forgiveness so that you don't build up a hard heart.

If by "heard", you mean "answered"......I'd think it's not intensity, but the actual need that may get a quicker answer accordingly. God hears the prayers before we utter them, or so He says. His timing is perfect and He answers just in the right time. It may not be our timing, but He does know what's best and He sees the bigger picture.

What religion/denomination are you?? You need to get a better understanding of your faith and relationship with God to realize that praying to God is not like taking a number to see a psychiatrist so they can hear your problem and help you. God is everywhere, he can hear you at anytime. To answer your question simply, there ARE levels of intensity of prayers which is basically your level of connection/how "in to" the conversation with God you are, but that does not mean you will get "heard more quickly!" The Bible says "ask and you shall receive and your joy will be complete," but I hope you are not just asking and asking and not living for God and creating a relationship with Him.

Yes, if you feel "goose bumps" go across your body when you pray then your prayer is most likely heard.(you undergo a current of energy)
Anyway, ANY prayer is heard BUT not any prayer is answered.

No, sometimes God stands back and lets you decide to quit trying to do everything yourself--THEN He steps in.
He WANTS to give you things, but in your prayers--praying for the other guy will get your prayer answered quicker.
Get it?

I'm an atheist for the most part--maybe a bit of an agnostic---...but I pray every night before I go to bed (old habbit)....

What really makes me reconcider my possition on theism (every once-in-a-while) is that my prayers are so often answered. mind you, i don't ask for anything that is too greedy.... usually for health of loved ones... and happiness, etc.
