I got my ears pierced a couple years ago at the mall at the ripe old age of 27. I struggled with infections and finally, when one of my holes widened because of one, I decided to let them heal/close up and try again. It has been nearly 2 years and I am ready to try again. Should I go to the mall or a tattoo parlor. I have heard the guns/people they use at the mall can be unsterile/undertrained. But tattoo parlors scare me a little. I have a problem with needles and I think piercing my flesh while staring at strange pics and listening to heavy metal might make me a little nervous. OK, give me your best horror stories.

i would recommend going to a professional piercer instead of a jewelry shop or somewhere like that...it`s true, the guns they use cannot be properly sterilized, so from the start u are exposing yourself to unwanted germs & possibly some kind of nasty disease...the needle actually makes a cleaner hole as well...a reputable piercer will make it as quick & painless as possible, so no worries!!!

I would suggest that you get your piercing from a tattoo parlor. If you decide to go to a tattoo parlor, make sure that they are using a tapered needle and not a piercing gun. With a piercing gun, it increases the chances of keloids developing significantly. Also, when getting your ears pierced at a tattoo parlor, you can be most likely sure that they are sterilized, as they are often checked by the health department.
You will also be surprised how accommodating tattoo parlors are, if you don't like the music or the pictures, I'm sure they will make the experience as comfortable as possible for you, and will answer any questions that you may have. I would ask them about their sterilization equipment. The most important pieces of equipment to listen for is the ultrasound and autoclave.
One last thing, I would recommend that you go to a reputable tattoo parlor, as their reputation is built around their skill.

I've had all of my piercings done at a professional piercing place. I would recommend it over getting yours done at the mall. Would you rather have the 16 year old girl at Claire's with 5 minutes of experience pierce you or have someone that does it for a living do it? The needle's not that bad and I hate needles! If it freaks you out, go with a friend!

Absolutely go to the tattoo parlor. I worked at Claire's in the mall and I wasn't well trained and it wasn't the cleanest way to do it. It'll end up costing you about the same either way and you'll get professional results, not weird piercings that aren't equal. The people at tattoo parlors are really nice (even though they may look intimidating!) and it's way safer to do it that way. Good luck either way.

hi Kelsey, Its cool that your mom will enable you to to have piercings. i will signify you wait till you're sixteen, for some motives, and adulthood has no longer something to do with it as a results of fact i will see from this which you have thought plenty approximately this piercing. Any piercing different than the lobes is suited carried out with a needle at a tattoo/piercing place, you're maximum suitable it is no longer secure to pierce cartilage as a results of fact it could cave in and or get contaminated. you could desire to have the capacity to discover a place that does purely physique piercings, despite if it is going to be no longer ordinary to discover even a tattoo keep which will pierce you till you're sixteen ( we can get in complication for doing it till now you're sixteen inspite of parental permission) to this point as your mom is going, once you circulate to get the piercing she could basically relax somewhat, tattooed human beings are basically like a number of different person we basically look diverse. (i swear we dont chew!) think of of tattoos as self expression. Your mom could take it as a good sign while she you circulate right into a tattoo keep and to get pierced and the folk are lined in tattoos and piercings, i propose might you like a piercing or tattoo from somebody who has none and cant relate to it or clarify it? good success on your piercing!
