Most airlines will allow you to book several months in advance, even Southwest with the shortest booking schedule will let you do so over 3 months in advance. Fact is the sooner you book the more you will save. Airfares from the airlines only go up. You might find some last minute low fairs but those can't be counted on happening to where you want to go. The people who take advantage of those can leave at anytime to anywhere. If that is not you, then you are better off booking as soon as you can.

It should not be a problem and you may catch a break in prices as well. Usually, though, reserve about 3-4 weeks in advance if you can, that is normally long enough to get you on the flight. Keep your eyes on holidays, because they fill up fast.

Actually, it's a good idea to do so.

You will likely get a better rate booking well in advance, and it will be easier to plan your trip already knowing when you are arriving and departing.
