I just made some banana bread and was wondering how long it is good for? Also, what is the best way to freeze it?

Absolutely. If you don't freeze it, it's probably good for only a few days. Because bananas have a lot of moisture, it tends to spoil quickly. I usually wrap my banana bread in food film (Glad Wrap or Saran Wrap) first and then I wrap it in foil. I've sometimes frozen loaves of banana bread for up to a year, and they've been fine when they thaw out. They're just as good as when they were fresh.

How To Freeze A Banana

I always make double or triple batches of banana bread, and freeze the extra loaves. Allow the bread to cool completely on a wire rack. Wrap the loaves individually in foil, then place in a zip-lock bag. I've had some frozen for 3 months without any problems. Allow it to thaw in the fridge or on the countertop. The crust will not be crispy as with fresh banana bread, but it's still delicious. If you want warm banana bread again, heat the slices in the microwave or toaster oven.

I think it freezes just fine! And I like it when it's just a little bit frozen to nibble on.

Let it cool, slice it, and then pop it in a plastic bag and close securely. You can take the slices out and toast them or microwave them one at a time.

Banana bread should last at least three days, and maybe up to a week if you put it in a bag and leave it on a countertop. I think the fridge makes it go stale faster. Depends on the recipe, how hot and humid your kitchen is, and a lot of things. I think freezing is the best option after day one.

absolutely- it should keep for a month to two months...obviously the longer you freeze it the less fresh it will seem but taht's a nice, dense, resilient bread.

i would wrap it in saran wrap and zip-loc it. just be sure it's all the way cool before you freeze it- otherwise the condensation will freeze and hurt the consistency of the bread when it defrosts.

just a tip for when you're thawing. if the bread feels dry as it's in the thaw process, melt a little butter and rub on the top- it will soak into the top of the bread, which is the first to go crusty, and help to saturate the whole thing. just a bit, though. you don't want it to get soggy.

If you tend to just want a slice or two thawed at a time, preslice the bread and wrap each slice in plastic wrap tightly, then put them into larger freezer ziplock type bags. It will keep for a month or better that way in the freezer. It stores longer frozen whole, but its not as convenient for a small family. When its gone "bad" its not a case of its going to make you sick, its a case of it doesn't taste fresh anymore.

Yes indeed! Banana Bread freezes very well!

Cool completely, then wrap tightly in plastic wrap, then foil, then maybe in a zipper bag as well. The point is to seal it well so no freezer/fridge odors can be absorbed by the bread. Thaw in teh fridge or on countertop.

Before you freeze your bread be sure to place a paper towel under it. Then wrap it in your saran wrap and foil. This will absorb all of the extra moisture in your bread when you thaw it and the bottom will not be mushy. Works with all breads too!
