My 5 month old pekingese was Spayed on Tuesday and they also repaired her Hernia (which was already repaired when she was 2 months old but they said it needed further repair during her spay) She pooped on her puppy pad, but she ate it ,so I couldn't see the stool except for the remnants on her pad which had specks of red blood. She just had a full blood work up and fecal exam including giardia, parasites, etc on Tuesday. She has had all of her shots. Is this something that happens after spay or hernia surgery? She is acting completely normal VERY hyper, clear eyes, normal appetite. ALSO-She also had a blood/fecal work up 2 weeks ago because she was vomiting and had loose stool. Again, everything was normal and she was switched to Hills wet presciption I/D food on Tuesday.

I was unaware that this was too much and she was too young. The forst Hernia surgery was done before I got her from the breeder.

Her Vet scheduled the spay on her first visit at 9 weeks. They told me to get it done before she goes in to heat for the first time.

Her incision is fine no bleeding or redness.

She used to eat her poop but it stopped, Her vet siggested forbid but she stopped on her own. This morning when she pooped it was fine but she did try to eat it we caught her in time. I guess I will have to get the forbid.

I totally agree with hills being poor quality, she was on Royal canin but she doesnt digest it well. After a post I posted on Saturday I decided I am switching her to Canidae Platinum.

Most likely she's fine. Keep a eye on her and call the vet if it persists for 24 hours.

Hernia Blood In Stool

Try to make sure the poor thing doesn't eat its poop!!
as far as the bright red blood on the pad??? It might be coming from the incision site from being spayed!!! look at the site and see what it looks like. It will seep a small of bright red blood maybe??

If your puppy has had all those test then your know for sure that its doesn't have worms nor any internal bleeding. The blood count would be off if it were.

I would give it till tomorrow and if you see any blood from the stools then I would take the dog back to the Vet.
Why was your puppy spayed at 5 months??? That was way to young for her to be spayed!!!! puppies that young can have all kinds of problems from being so young! I have heard of puppies having to be respayed due to it being due to them so young!!!

Watch her very close!!

Good Luck

Wow, this was all to much for a 5 month old puppy. I can not believe your vet did this surgery and gave all those vaccines. well... I guess I can believe it. Happens all the time. So think about it... she has had all her shots.. how many multi shots to cover how many viruses? 3 sets? A rabies vaccine, 2 surgeries, probably given antibiotics and maybe pain medication.. been wormed... ALL by the time she reaches 20 weeks of age.
Blood in her feces does not surprise me at all. Now the vet has you feeding her poor quality food on top of it all.
I think he will have you coming back for a long time due to his own care.
Sorry, I am major anti over vaccination and this pup has been put through way to much for her age in my opinion.. Of course there will be people who have never done an ounce of research to give me the thumbs down but some research of your own will horrify you as to what all just happened to your puppy in such a short time.
I hope the best for her and for you.

No question about it, the hernia needs to be fixed. If the hernia was caused by the surgery, then it needs to be brought to the Vet's attention (who did the surgery) because it should be fixed at no charge. (also the initial visit to have it looked at should be no charge as well). I'm not sure who has diagnosed her with having a "surgical hernia" but if wasn't a Vet, then all the more reason to have a Vet take a look at it. This has the potential to be quite serious, so get her in as soon as you can.

This is probably normal due to the moving around of her insides during the surgery. If she is eating and drinking normally then it is probably nothing... Keep an eye on her stool and if you see large amounts of fresh bright red blood call your vet immediately. But some small spots of blood after surgery can be normal.
Good luck

I would call the vet and ask them-- they know best...

she shouldn't still have bright red blood- that means there is active bleeding.

If your vet doesn't have an answering service, call an emergency or after hours vet can tell you if it can wait til you can see your regular vet.
