how many are here? What if there's 17mil. or 25mil.?Maybe its just me but I think its more logical to secure the borders first, then find out who is actually here.

EDIT...Quiz good point..My answer is they should be given the option.Either come forward and register(police stations or city halls)within 2 months.Or if you don't register in 2 months and you are caught then you get deported and never have a chance to live here.

Sad, eh? We give the honest people trying to get into this country more red tape and fees and documents and forms - and then we reward the one who illegally entered the country.
I agree with you - first, seal the damn borders - then find out just how big a problem we actually have.
I've seen numbers ranging from 6 million to 20 million and that's a pretty wide spread. On a local level, the illegals are finding that they can pretty much do as they wish - there are just too many obstacles and hoops to jump through for the local authorities to even try and control or remedy this concern. Hell, it's even illegal in some places to even ask if they have the proper authority to be in this country.
What a joke - we are indeed a country of law.....LOL.

Or they could cap it - over 12 million, out of luck, first come first served....
It would be incentive.
And the only reason they DON'T do that is because they know well it may be 20 million, as Bears Stearns estimated, instead of the 12 the Pew Hispanic Center estimated.
I think bypassing committees on a bill of this magnitude is shocking.

I've been saying that for years.
This new will will change NOTHING.
It provides the politicians with some B.S. reason to pat themselves on the back, and say "look what we did".
What a load of crap.
The flood will continue until the the borders are locked up tight !!

THE BILL WILL SAY WHAT'S TO BE DONE. no matter how many.
we dont need no studies...we have enough info.
most who have been here are here a long time because they are law abiding and keep to themselves.!!!!!
saw a silly idea in an answer..
the bad ones prey on their own or get caught and deported.
hey, why don't we improve conditions and create jobs down there so they are not starving..and risking their lives to stand on foreign street corners and beg for work. to feed their babies.!
we could make money doing them a big favor instead of spending money to hate.
just an idea.

Yes, and once the border is closed we can start the questioning/round up. IF they can pay the $5k when they are questioned, then great you are one step closer to becoming an American. IF they are broke, then sorry it's time to leave and don't return.

I hope you are not suggesting we do one of those stupid studies that will cost a billion dollars to find out they are just not sure. They would probably make it so important that we would have to make it an official bureaucratic institution.
