Do you mean "Love means never having to say you're sorry"?

It's from the book /movie "Love Story". And its so not true.......

Or do you mean: "When you love something you set it free, if it comes back......

You may mean "If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it's yours. If it doesn't, it never was." It was big on posters back in the day. I don't know who said it originally.

There were a few of those. One was "If you love something, set it free. It if comes back, it's yours."

One ended with "If it doesn't, then it never was"
The other said "If it doesn't, then hunt it down and kill it"

I put both up on my wall as a kid. The first one covered the second one when mom came upstairs ...

[Update]
Professor, are you sure that wasn't:
"S&M means never having to say you're sorry" ??

There is a whole web site of variants on that http://hkn.eecs.berkeley.edu/~ntang/jokes/loveSomeone

I think the original was "Follow My Dream" by Suzanne Sablotny. http://www.lovepoetry.com/poem.asp?x_id=312
