I use my nail gun to build house for the homeless, and not one of them has been killed by it yet. Afterwards, I clean it off using an air gun, which hasn't killed anyone either. Later on I work out in the gym lifting weights to increase the size of my "guns".

Oh wait, this is just another semi-rhetorical question "asked" by an ignorant anti-firearm fanatic.....in that case, when I go target shooting with a vast majority of my fellow law abiding gun owners, the only thing we shoot for relaxation is paper targets, which aren't alive, the answer is no, when I shoot my firearm, it's not to kill something.

Well, since you said "the only thing", I'll go ahead and say that no, it is not true.

A firearm (have you never seen Full Metal Jacket?) is designed to preserve life. When a firearm is used by a law-abiding citizen to persuade a criminal to flee, or even when deadly force is used, that law-abiding citizen is preserving life and freedom.

A firearm used to shoot at inanimate targets, whether tin cans, balloons, clay pigeons, or sheets of paper, that firearm is most certainly not killing anyone or anything. There are some firearms designed specifically with this purpose in mind.

A firearm that is capable of firing less-than-lethal rounds, such as bean-bags or rubber bullets, is not made "only to kill".

A "blank-firing" firearm can be designed specifically so that no projectile is discharged, so certainly that firearm is not designed to kill.

I won't bother pointing out the fact that you don't even understand proper terminology by stating all of the "guns" that aren't designed for killing.

No, a gun was designed as a platform for a projectile to be launched from. It's just a pretty hunk of metal it can't do anything but sit in one place, it can't be made to do anything but be a platform the gun powder actually propels the projectile not the gun. You can find a piece of pipe that a bullet fits into and fire it off with a nail and hammer (don't try it you'll get hurt). Same pipe in the hands of a criminal can be used to beat someone to death. Does that meen the pipe was made to kill?? A person decides if that projectile kills, or hits paper, they decide if that pipe hooks to the bath tub or connects with the side of your head. It seems to me People were made to kill. gun, knife, car, pipe, bare fists doesn't matter what's used look it up PEOPLE have succeeded in killing.

If you are impliing that a gun is for nothing for killing, that is wrong, a gun is a tool that can be used for many things. If however you are talking about the fact that you shoot to kill if forced to draw down on somebody you are correct. If you feel the threat against you is so great to use a firearm, you do not shoot to wound, or scare, or warn, you shoot to cease the threat, aka shoot to kill.

I carry a gun on my hip 4 days out of the week and 3 days a week its on my ankle. My guns purpose is to preserve live and freedom, to protect those who cant protect themselves. "Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." George Orwell. Your question is proof that people are generally retarded mainly those who buy into the anti gun propaganda, extract your head from your a$$ a minute and think for your self, but be careful it might hurt at first. If a gun does anything then I would say that it gives life not to the person it is aimed at but the family and children huddled in the corner of the closet or the weak and oppressed.

Guns have no decision on what they are used for, so saying they are made "to kill" is not exactly true. Guns are a tool, and how they are used is up to the person who is holding the gun.

Sure that is what it does if you are not careful. You do not need to be afraid of guns but you do need to respect them. You can make guns enjoyable, safe, and fun to shoot like you should. Or you can be careless and kill someone, it is all under the shooter's control.

Your literal question is, is killing the only consideration in manufacturing all guns. And the answer is, No. There are a number of different considerations when making various kinds of guns.

Don't be an idiot. More people are killed by drunk drivers in the us every year than are even slightly injured with a firearm. Does this mean that we should try to prevent everybody from driving. We cannot make the world idiot proof or totally safe. As long as you have people you are going to have people doing one another in by some means.

Not necessarily. Some guns are strictly target shooters; others are strictly collectible. There are also blank guns, starter guns, flare guns, nail guns, water guns, model guns, toy guns, training guns, and so on. There are even guns made to destroy cancerous tumors. Like defensive guns, these guns, as well as flare guns are intended to SAVE LIVES.
