An electric meter typically has 5 dials that rotate in opposite directions. If a pointer is between two numbers, use the lower number. If a pointer is right next to a zero, look at the previous dial.

Your electric consumption is computed by subtracting last month's reading from this month's reading.

Check out the link below for dial examples and more detailed instructions.

VA ( volts amperes) is the unit to measure power. or mostly used as KVA ( kilo volts amperes)
this is made of two components WATT & VAR.
the useful part is the watt ie its what contributes for ur water heater to get hot, and such things.
the VAR can be imagined as an unuseful part that in some parts of the wrold u pay for.
so lets say u have u have a 1 KVA load
in 90% of normal applications that will have a 0.85 Kwatts component and 0.526 KVAR.
KVA squared= Kwatts squared + KVAR squared.
so if u run ur 1 kva application for 1 hour, you will be charged for 1 kva HOUR, and in most contries for 0.85 Kwatt hours.
ur energy meter will be most probably reading the Kwatt hours. what shows on the meter is your total consumption since you connected the meter.
