I own a 1992 Volvo 240 sedan with 200,000 miles. What is the best muffler/exhaust system I can use (pipes and all components after the catalytic) that will last a long time (i.e., won't rust quickly)? Also, what is the approximate cost of such a system (minus labor)? Thanks a million.

I used KBS RustSeal on my muffler and rear exhaust components and it worked perfectly. I was concerned that the high temperature wreck the paint, but it has help up.

Hey wisdom, I'ld just buy the volvo system, it has a lifetime warranty on the muffler and isn't expensive. It also fits right and those cars are probably pretty hard to have a custom made system. The volvo has 200,000 miles on it and might not last long enough to justify a good stainless steel system. Don't get me wrong and think that I'm condoning your Volvo but the repairs can get pretty expensive as these cars start getting alot of miles on them. Fuel pumps, catalytic converters,mass airflow sensors,timing belts wevery 50,000 miles, water pumps that should be done every 100,000 miles at least because it'll save a bunch of labor if it's done when the timing belt is done. Sometimes the costs to repair will be more than the value of the vehicle, and some people love their vehicles that much, so get the volvo exhaust and have it installed by your local volvo dealer

Muffler is under the motor vehicle and isn't any longer for seems, in particular for sound. Exhaust tip is for seems and can be bolted bolted on or welded. Mufflers is additionally bolted on with a clamp yet greater in all hazard to leak. fee for suggestions relies upon on length and type ( stainless or chrome ). Inslalling a muffler doesnt continually recommend changing the full exhaust gadget. Muffler and exhaust can get replaced on a similar time.

you are looking for $150-$200 installed in a good shop, which it should includes: alluminized pipe, resonator and muffler. If you are looking to do it yourself and dont have any experience, If I were you I wouldnt even try. These pipes and connections get welded and sometimes require clamps to attach the tubing with the chassis (rear muffler gets 2 or 3). There are some kits for certain vehicles where you can do-it-yourself, they only require clamps to conncet cat-back exhaust. Look for PaceSetter for your volvo or also look for jcwithney.com, I think they have your vehicle listed.
If you are looking for a strong material, it will cost you more money. You could spend up to $350+ for a stainless steel exhaust system.
For the vehicle you own, I'd say go alluminized exhaust, it should last 5-7 years (depending your driving habits).

To recall:
* Alluminized exhaust: cheap & affordable 5-7 years
* Stainless steel exhaust: moderate to expensive 10+ years (resist more heat and it wont rust)
If you are looking for a new exhaust that begins after cataly converter is called: Cat-back exhaust
* Alluminized: $150-$200
* Stainless steel: $350 +

Good luck!

Yes the 240 probably has 200000 more miles in her but a regular exhaust that has been rust roofed should do the trick. With age of the car and the amount of miles just get a regular muffler and pipe. Just make sure you rust proof that part of the car. Undercoat the car every 18 months.

I would go to a local exhaust shop and have them install a stainless steel cat-back system. Usually it's cheaper than a name brand set up. Avoid anodized aluminum, they won't last as long. Titanium is another more expensive alternative.

Go to ipdusa.com, they have a complete Walker aluminized system(cat back), with all the clamps and rubber hangers. Costs about $160.00 plus shipping. they have quality stuff at better prices then I can find locally. Good luck!

Get a stainless steel system. You'll have to shop around for prices.
