I think if you believe in something strongly enough, it becomes real to you. In the movie The Skeleton Key, only those who believed in hoodoo could be harmed by it. Sometimes one's beliefs can become very powerful, especially if the person with these beliefs is open to the power of suggestion.

If it is, it would be psychosomatic, group hysteria or demonic or the magico-shamanist world view is true: there are no accidents but everything has a spirit(every rock and tree)behind it.Since life is not fair,if i believed the last in the list, Iwould be constantly anxious and fearful of offending some spirit, orisha or shaman. However, I'm a Christian and I believe that i do not have to fear dryads, hungry ghosts, annoyed spirits, curses, spectral monsters from the offended nature gods or the like. Goodness is victorious in Jesus.

yes, they have had cases of peoiple turning up dead with worms in their veins, coffin nails under their skin, with no apparent cause for it, but Hoodoo is only really practiced in the southern United states, esp. louisiana, so I wouldn't worry about it, and if you live in that area, don't go to the bathroom in a stranger's house
