So many bible fallacies, made up stories and inconsistencies. So many modern day church scandals. How about the fact that you have absolutely no reason to really believe that god or jesus, allah, jehovah, or any god you worship is real (I do understand that it's about faith though). Understanding all of that. I don't understand why you guys just can't be honest when someone points out really ridiculous things to you.
Okay, we all know snakes don't talk. Or no one can die and come back to life. We also know that a village of people can't be turned into a pillar of salt because they did not obey god. How about promising all of the men virgins after death. We know that people really should celebrate holidays on the day because it really hurts our children when we punish them like that.
How do you defend aspects of religion that you admit or know are false or make ridiculous claims to its followers?

A little off topic, but do the 72 virgins have a choice or are they raped. Seems to me they are just offered up to men against their will is that paradise for them? Probably not.
I'm an atheist, so I think it is all nonsense. Extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence.

I use the same thing to prove there’s a God that you use to deny him, the Human Brain.
Studies, like that done by the University of Michigan, and featured in the Discovery Channel program, The Amazing Life of the Human Brain, shows just how amazing the human brain is.
Every second while awake, we are absorbing 40MBs of data per second. That’s 144 gigabytes per hour and about 2 terabytes per day. That’s a lot of data even for the largest computer. When we sleep at night, and only at night or under nighttime conditions, all that data is sorted and stored through the creation of synaptic connectors and biochemical bounds. The brain has enough volume to allow for the creation of these storage connectors to last over 10,000 years.
I should also note that a recent study has found that it doesn’t happen while dreaming, but just before it. Your consciousness completely shuts down in the same manner a program pauses while saving a file.
Without the need of a creator, what evolutionary pressure could bring about the need for this much volume that would take that long to fill? Clearly, man was either created by God to live that long, or if evolve, once lived that long, and has since de-evolved to what we are today. Which do you think it is?
Also, consider just how much long it would have taken to evolve to the point where humans lived for 10,000 years. People would have matured slower and took much longer to reach the child burying years, so generations would have passed slower, stretching evolution out to trillions of millenniums. Evolution would have needed to start some time soon after the Big Bang.
Evolution does take place, in that animals have evolved and humans have de-evolved since the time of the creation. Many divergent species are related, such as the Meerkat/Hyena and the Lion/House cat. A house cat can breed with a lion, I wonder if the same is possible the Hyena and Meerkat?
This is why I believe in God. I use the brain he gave me, and designed for me, to determine something beyond imagination.

church scandals:
The Salem Witch Trials
Spanish Inquisition
Pastors addicted to porn
Pastors/priests molesting children
Holocaust

Christians are far from perfect. I'm not perfect. You're not perfect. No one's perfect. We don't claim to be perfect (well, some of the lunatics who get called Christians do I would imagine).
Snakes don't talk.
What about serpents?
No one can come back to life.
Who are we to say at this point? The rate at which medical technology is developing, I don't see it as something unheard of in the future. Granted, Christ was dead for three days, but it seems like a walk in the park for the creator of the universe.
Men get virgins after death.
That seems completely dumb to me, and yes, I am a guy :)
People can't be turned into a pillar of salt because they did not obey God.
Of course they can't if you don't believe in God... but let's scrap the God part. I do believe that people can be turned into pillars of salt. That's ridiculous, but not any more ridiculous than the fact that we exist.
Made up stories and inconsistencies.
Christ taught in parables. Those were indeed made up stories. Other than that, I'm not aware of any made up stories. Perhaps the prophecies that are full of strange symbolism are what you are referring to.
The inconsistencies are a bit troubling, but only a bit. So what if three different accounts speak of five men in dazzling apparel, 3 angels, and I forget what the other one says off-hand? It's perspective. Granted, we can't tell who was standing closest to the angels, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was the guy who said there were five of them. To me, the inconsistencies further reinforce the reliability of the Bible. If the Disciples were trying to fabricate their faith, they would have gone out of their way to ensure that each account matched up 100 percent, and they don't.
defending false teachings?
I haven't come across anything in Christianity that wasn't true. That said, I would NEVER defend something I knew to be untrue. I would simply leave the faith.
Let me clear something up. Faith isn't some magical or mystical "force" that surrounds Christians. It's simply trust in God. Christianity is either true or it isn't true. No amount of "faith" can make it true or untrue.
If I got upset or angry, or it seems like I got upset or angry, I apologize. It wasn't my intent to do so. If I've made you upset or angry, I apologize. I didn't intend to do that either. However, making you upset is something I can live with. Knowing that I possibly missed a chance to save your life is something I can't.

I would rather be amazed by miracles and awed speechless than wander through life not knowing my purpose.
I believe the Bible is God's Word, that it is wholly and completely true. If you don't, then that's your own dilemma to deal with. But, personally, I enjoy the peace that I have, knowing why I'm here and how the world came into existence...not to mention knowing that I don't have to overcome every obstacle by myself.

I know it's hard to imagine, but maybe I know something that you don't know.
God is real. He has revealed Himself to me in a thousand different ways, and not me only, but many others.
