You could try giving her an option of the type of clothes, rather than letting her choice be get dressed or not. Say something like "Would you like to wear the pink outfit or the blue one." Having a choice may let her still feel autonomous because she is getting her will, but secretly, you are also getting yours. Making it a battle isn't working.

Yep, leave her there. She's five so I assume she has no problem dressing herself. Every five minutes or so you can go in and remind her that she is free to come out just as soon as she calms down and puts on her clothes. I've done the exact same with my 3 year old.

My girls pulled this on me. ONCE. I put them in the shower and turned on the cold water... of course they screamed and complained about being cold... so I told them their nice warm dry clothes were on their beds... if they wanted to be warm to get dressed.
Now if they give me any grief I just ask them if I need to start the shower... they're dressed before I get to the bathroom!

My suggestion is to not give in and not to give up. You will have to give her TLC and find out what the problem is, it is not going to be easy. But in a tender way you will have to keep the upper hand. We raised 3 daughters and never had this problem but that was 40 years ago with the youngest.

if you break now, she will have ocntrol over you. make her stay in her room the whole day if she doesn't get dressed. she will eventually get bored and get dressed. but also make sure she has nothing to play with, because if she is having fun, then there will be no reason to come out.

Are you going somewhere?
If you are, tell her that you're taking her in "x minutes" and if she's not dressed, that's ok, she can go in her pj's.
You need to keep it from becoming a contest of wills between you and her. If she can't contest with YOU but instead has to deal with a timer, clock, something NOT YOU, then the fun of the fight is gone.

If she's five I assume she is going to school? Or preschool. Send her to school/preschool in her nightclothes. Take a bag of clothes and I promise she will come home in them. After a few times of going in her nighties and having the other kids make fun of her will straighten her up.

They way you handle her is to give her a whooping..You show her that you are her mom and that you will not take anything from her..Becuz if you spoil her and let her have her way she will take advantage of you..Your her parent and you don't have to let her run you..
