I will admit I don't know a whole lot about it...but have read a few answers on here pertaining to it...so then when jesus raises the dead some believe it isn't physical bodies...but our soul? If that is correct than does that mean when someone dies they don't go to heaven quite yet?

Funny you should ask...I just finished reading an excellent study on the Rapture and the lack of Biblical evidence to support it. I think the first response you received here was pretty accurate according to the idea of taking the entire Bible with context, and not piecemealing it. When Lazarus was resurrected his first time, he was in full physical body. Heaven is described as a place much like Eden with all kinds of fruit, and animals...we would not need food and companionship of animals if we were in spirit form would we? According to the Word studies of Genesis, a soul is what a person is when the body and God's breath of life/or life force is joined with it. We are living souls, or beings...when we die, the energy that makes us alive returns to our maker...that is not a consciousness by any means. All throughout the Bible are verses which explain how the dead know nothing, their thoughts and plans cease...we are not to communicate with the dead...etc. If the Bible is true, it is 100% true, not partly in accordance with some pagan/human traditions. Since these things are found in the Bible...perhaps someone can explain why some churches believe their dead family members are helping them, or looking down on them...would you be at peace in heaven knowing your loved ones are still suffering on Earth, or worse, roasting alive forever in Hell? None of those things can be true if the Bible is true. The Bible teaches that in heaven, there will be no sorrow or tears.

There is no rapture, because the Bible says that when Christ does return, it will be a surprise for those who are not ready (like a thief in the night), but that every eye will see, and every ear will hear. There will be the shout of the archangel, and the trumpet of the Lord...so how do some churches continue to believe in the secret rapture theory which came around about 200 years ago? There is even a church which says that Christ has been to visit their 'temples' all over Utah...
The Bible says that the dead in Christ will rise first...we'll be standing there and dead people will come out of the ground with new bodies...no longer dead, but alive...they'll be raised to the clouds, and those of us who are alive when He comes will be caught up together with them. We also will be transfigured...our bodies will put on incorruption. It is pretty direct there. No time for rapture. There is no second chance when Christ comes. Who is just will be just still, who is unjust will still be unjust. Are you ready? Will you be caught unaware like a thief breaking in to your home when you are asleep?

Jalapino so far has your best answer. I just want to elaborate on it further. The word rapture does not appear in the Bible. However, when we are taken (raptured) up to heaven at Christ's second coming it will be one event. The secret rapture which a lot of churches believe is not Biblical. A couple of texts are used and twisted to support the theory.
When we study a topic in the Bible we need to study all the texts related to that topic, not just pick out one or two text. We need to take God's word in its entire context. Then and only then will we fully understand the truth.

The Bible tells us that the righteous dead and the righteous living will be changed in an instance. They will look younger, healthier, all sickness and disease will be gone. So if we are only spirits in heaven then why would it matter if our physical bodies are changed? It is because we live in heaven with physical bodies as we do now, only we are transformed into perfection. We are told we will be able to play and run with the animals, we will be eating the 12 different kinds of fruit from the tree of life. A spirit cannot do that.

Those who believe that we only have a soul in heaven and not a physical body are sorely mistaken. There is only one truth and that is whole Bible truth.

If you are interested in following the doctrines of man, then you can try to believe in rapture. Rapture is not biblically sound doctrine, and was invented by some people with unusual ideas about Judaism a little over 200 years ago. That is the reason you will not find contextual references in support of the idea. The resurrection when Christ finally comes for the second time is the only time anyone will be going to heaven to live with Him. When it happens, there will be no other chances for those who are "Left Behind". I hope that many will read these and decide for themselves to read the Holy Bible to find the facts regarding the falsehoods of rapture and other man made traditions and ideas.

2 Thess. 2:1 - Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him" we believe means the snatching away of the Church.

1 Thess. 4:15-18 - "For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

Prevent here means "precede."

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

I believe that when the Lord calls his Church their "bodies" will come up out of the grave in a very orderly procedure. The dead rise first.

In a twinkling of an eye, we are raised incorruptible and we shall be changed. Our physical bodies will be made as spiritual bodies. You cannot go to heaven in your old body. I believe the soul is with Jesus at the time of death but is then connected with the new spiritual body at the time of the resurrection.

Our souls may go to a part of the 3 heavens when we die. We don't know and can only speculate. I am not sold on purgatory.

The point is the Church age has ended. Those who hate the Church and the Christians can then rejoice. We won't be here anymore.

When the Bible says a person is “sleeping” in relation to death (Luke 8:52; 1 Corinthians 15:6), it does not mean literal “sleep.” Sleeping is just a way to describe death because a dead body appears to be sleeping. The Bible tells us that the instant you die, you are taken to heaven or Hell based on whether you had received Christ as your Savior or not. For believers, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23). For unbelievers, death means everlasting punishment in Hell (Luke 16:22-23). The concept of “soul sleep” is not a Biblical doctrine. The moment we die, we face the judgment of God (Hebrews 9:27). Until the resurrection, though, there is currently a temporary heaven “Paradise” (Luke 23:43; 2 Corinthians 12:4) and Hell “Hades” (Revelation 1:18; 20:13-14).

In a sense, a person’s body is “sleeping” while their soul is in Paradise or Hades. This body is then “awoken” and transformed into the eternal body a person will possess for eternity. These eternal bodies is what we possess for all of eternity, whether we are in heaven or Hell. Those who were in Paradise will be sent to the New Heavens and New Earth (Revelation 21:1). Those who were in Hades will be thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:11-15). These are the final, eternal destinations of all people - based entirely on whether a person had trusted Jesus Christ alone for the salvation of their sins.

Read I Thessalonians 2:13 -18.Paul says how the dead in Christ are raised first. Then we who are alive and left, will be "caught up" (that's the rapture) to meet the Lord in the air.
Now what happens is ,when we die (as Paul says to be absent from the body is to be at home with the Lord) ,our spirit goes to heaven and is given a spiritual body (I Corinthians 15).Now when the resurrection (the dead in Christ ) happens we are joined to a new non corruptible body, made from the DNA of the old .So whether we were burned up,or eaten and pooped out by a lion,God can put us back together in an immortal body. Those who are alive and are raptured are changed ,Paul says ,in "the twinkling of an eye, from mortal to immortal".
Souls do not sleep, not even the lost. They are in hell, quite aware of themselves (see Luke's 'Lazerus and the rich man').

in case you have an pastime in following the doctrines of guy, then you definately can attempt to have self concept in rapture. Rapture isn't biblically sound doctrine, and grew to grow to be into invented by using some those with unusual concepts approximately Judaism fairly over 200 years interior the previous. it fairly is the rationalization you will no longer come across contextual references in help of the assumption. The resurrection whilst Christ finally comes for the 2nd time is the only time each physique could be going to heaven to stay with Him. whilst it happens, there will be no different possibilities for persons who're "Left on the back of". i desire that many will learn those and choose for themselves to envision the Holy Bible to locate the advice with connection with the falsehoods of rapture and different guy made traditions and ideas.

I believe when people pass on,their soul goes either to a place of paradise or a place of torment until Judgement Day. During the rapture, the dead in Christ will rise, but they are given new bodies to be reunited with their souls.

When someone dies they go immediately to heaven or hell. The rapture will occur after the tribulation--the tribulation will be Satan's final attempt to destroy Christ's followers, after which Christ will return, take His followers to heaven and then pour out His wrath on the unbelievers who remain. The first link below will help you understand the rapture a little better. I hope it's helpful for you.

To be assent from the body is to be present with the Lord
Our spirit go to God that created it instantly, our bodies are here until the Judgment, when Jesus returns it will be changed to an incorruptible body

1 Corinthians 15

42So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

43It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:

44It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.

45And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

46Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

47The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.

48As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.

49And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

50Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

51Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.
