Divorce stats are really messed up by the media to make divorce look more "normal" than it really is.
Actually about 70% of first time marriage succeed.
That is when it is the first marriage for both partners.
You'll rarely see that statisic quoted by the mostly Left Wing media.
For 2nd time marriages the divorce rate is 70%
For 3rd time and more marriages the divorce rate is 90%
Average them all and you get about 50% not 60%

America is not a Christian nation.
It's laws were based on British common law, which runs back all the way to the Romans.
If you look at the statistics atheists have a lower divorce rate than Christians. Probably because they are smart enough to get to know someone and find out what they are really like before they get married and start having kids.

The latest is that it is now at 37%! Why the welcome drop in percentage? Well, they attribute it to quite a few things. One, abstinence and govt. reform to promote and enable marriage; two, Americans were well-educated about the horrific frequency percentage and developed a healthy fear from and in commitment; three, people are marrying later, on average late 20's, rather than early to mid-20's; and fourth, many more are not marrying at all, but cohabiting. Of course, one doesn't possess the present separation stats for this last phenomenon, but according to earlier ones, those who cohabit experience more negative ramifications than positive, at least in the long-run.

I think it's more a reflection of what social science and psychology have finally figured out: Humans are not inclined to be monogamous, especially males. Humans are, in fact, the only mammals that are even remotely monogamous, and that's mainly due to the arbitrary restrictions imposed by religion. Early humans were not, and many primitive tribes today are not monogamous. Monogamy is a nice idea, it's just not terribly realistic. Maybe we are losing our grip on marriage because we are finally getting rid of mythology.
As for allowing gays to marry: I say gays have just as much right to be miserable as the rest of us.

That marriage is a failure none but the very stupid will deny. One has but to glance over the statistics of divorce to realize how bitter a failure marriage really is. Marriage is primarily an economic arrangement, an insurance pact. It differs from the ordinary life insurance agreement only in that it is more binding, more exacting.
Thus Dante's motto over Inferno applies with equal force to marriage: "Ye who enter here leave all hope behind."

No, it shows how little we mean to ourselves. Women stopped teaching their daughters to be wives & take pride in it, and Men & boys have been taught that behaving in a masculine way is acually hostile, offensive and irrelevant to a thriving culture.
These are results of a feminist movement. The divorce rate rose Along with the popularity fo these tenets.
Think about it. If you were never taught and don't know how to be a wife and as a husband you were taught that your importance in a household is only sporadic and peripheral, then why keep the sharade of a committment of a marraige going?

Speaking as someone who has been happily married for 30 years, I agree that in many cases marriage isn't the nicest or best institution there is. But for raising children, while it isn't perfect ,it is the best system we have so far. Our responciblity as adults and parents is to provide a stable loving enviroment for our young to grow up in. It doesn't matter if the two people providing that enviroment are male/female, male/male or female/female.

a few flaws and Marriage is still the heart of any nation-as goes the family so goes the Nation. And to say-this means that we should change the definition of marriage is like saying some people shoot other people-so lets make blowing up people legal!
divorced people often remarry and divorce again -some like Liz trashed Taylor who supports Aids relief on both ends trailor have had 7 divorces so far.
there is hope and its time to give it out= never give up-I say chose to be what you were created-check your biological makings-if your a male -then as Jesus says -one man for one woman-it doesnt say if you cant find a female-are you locked in your house-do you go to school??
this helped me alot too in this area=Romans 1 Some are unthankful to God and worship the created instead of the creator and are turned over to a reprobate mind to do what is unseamly.
Ist Corinthians gives the answer to blind people too-"And such WERE some of you, but you have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus.
"For by grace are you saved through faith, it is the gift of God not of works lest anyone should boast." Ephesians 2:8&9
JESUS IS RIGHT!
WE HAVE to bring salvation by Jesus the Lord our Tzedak =The Lord is our righteousness
Isaiah 53 explains how the Lord becomes our righteousness
at the destruction of the temple Jesus had already given the sacrifice of blood for sin
Moses explained "The life of the flesh is in the blood and I have given it upon the altar to make atonement for your souls." Leviticus 17:11
believe Moses and the promised Messiah
atonement
it is helping people of their faith and can also be used though rarely to help people that personally know the religious people's Messiah Jesus.
because they love the Messiah Jesus and all others.
Isaiah 9:6 "Unto us a child is born a son is given, and he will be almighty GOD, and the Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 52:13-53:12 states "He shall lay down his life to make atonement for our sins."
thus we get to chose our life style with power to live right from a Messiah that will save us and be our best friend, and helping others, or helping others to be our own savior thinking we are earning our way to heaven.
praying for you and best wishes too Shalom peace-David

It certainly shows the amazing gullibility of humans: to sign a legal document promising to love someone forever on the strength of a few months' of shags and parties.
It was a stupid idea even in the days when it was the only way to get laid.

America is not a Christian nation, but our laws were founded on the principles of the Bible. That's a fact.
I find America now rather materialistic and hedonistic. If it were not for the Christians in this fair land, we would have gone to the dogs a long time ago.
