Our congregation had the Circuit Overseer this week.he gave a talk & well it has had me thinking alot!Im sort of confused so im hoping one of you guys could help me.He mentioned Myspace.he went on to say that many witnesses have a page on that website.that why would anybody that is a servant of Jehovah want to be involved in that.He said that he couldnt believe how badly people talk about Jehovah on there.I really dont know what he is talking about because i have never seen anyone mention anything about Jehovah.Maybe some of you have but i never have.so when he asked"Why would any servant of Jehovah want to be involved in anything that talks bad about him" I started thinking of yahoo answers. i see many people talk so bad about Jehovah & his people! So are we doing wrong by getting involved?i dont want to do anything that may displease Jehovah. so what do you think?

another attempt by the society to keep you away from anything that might show you how wrong and how manipulated the organization is. they don't want you to start questioning them. they want to be the only source of your information. what they say goes and if you start reading things that shed light on the true truth, you'd leave them.

I DID!!! and I am so thank for to God that he showed me the truth light!

question all you can, learn as much as you can from places other than the society. They mislead you, they tell you what they want you to know. There are people who aren't afraid to speak against the society, be open minded, something that the society doesn't want you to be because if your mind and heart are open you'll see how wrong they are.

God Bless.

What you are dealing with is association.

sites like Myspace encourage interchanging thoughts and ideas.

1 Cor 15:33 comes into play.

That doesn't mean that this site is totally safe, You can step over from a question and answer format to association.

There are certain posters who have established that they are disfellowshiped or disassociated ones, Their comments I don't even read, nor do I try to refute them.

Having said this realize too, that sincere people as Anna may mean well, but they have turned the freedom of the Christ into what Peter discribed at:

2 Pet 2:19 While they are promising them freedom, they themselves are existing as slaves of corruption. For whoever is overcome by another is enslaved by this one. 20 Certainly if, after having escaped from the defilements of the world by an accurate knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they get involved again with these very things and are overcome, the final conditions have become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have accurately known the path of righteousness than after knowing it accurately to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 The saying of the true proverb has happened to them: “The dog has returned to its own vomit, and the sow that was bathed to rolling in the mire.”

by trying to cause people to turn from true worship of Jehovah, to worshiping Jesus, they reject all that Jesus, John, Paul, and Peter have to say.

Rev 1:5,6; Rom. 15:5,6; 1 Pet 1:3, Rev 3:12.

I hope this helps.

I must admit that whenever people are negative or persecuting YHWH God, our Most Holy Heavenly Father, It really gets me for a moment, but then I use this site as one of the best Witnessing arenas to His advantage, to declare and honor His Name just hoping that someone will turn back to YHWH and really search for Him.
One must be very careful though, not to forget our humble position in the order of things and remember to imitate our Loving Holy Father in being long-suffering and kind.
He knows what is in our hearts and minds and as far as I am concerned, the more people that can be reached, the better.
P.S. I have never been to Myspace, so will not comment.

After that talk at our Circuit Assembly, I talked to an elder in my congregation. I explained that it is not like My Space and it is not a chat room. It is a question and answer forum. He said that this would be a conscience matter and to use caution (of course). I view it as informal witnessing.

Myspace is a social network, and as with everything, Good or Bad can come from it. Truth is, many JW youngsters hook up with others via these social network and get into trouble.
Some of the youth are looking for racy photos that borderline, on JW sensitivities. The question you must ask, are the youth in your congregation so boring you must dive into a social network for friends?

I have been to many Kingdom Hall meetings, and from what I have gathered most issues such as this are not aproached dogmatically, but each one is to be guided by his own Bible trained conscience.
If you think what you are doing is questionable, you are supposed to go to the elders and seek their advice.
Seeking advice here on answers is probably not a good idea for the practicing Jehovah's Witness, especially if you are as unsure of your internet conduct as you seem to be.

MySpace is intended for socializing.

Yahoo Answers is intended for questions and answers.

The best encouragement comes directly from reading the Scriptures. Personal fellowship also has an important role in true worship, but the internet is certainly *NOT* the place for true Christians to find good association.

(Hebrews 10:24,25) And let us consider one another to incite to love and fine works, not forsaking the gathering of ourselves together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the more so as you behold the day drawing near.

"Dgc" Pardon me for stating... But these are personal issues that involves our way of worship and so not understood by the media/public. Hence, I do not think it is appropriate (nor do I recommend) you discuss it here on yahoo answers & questions [or the net for that matter]. Rather you should speak of this to the friends personally or by via private emails to those related to you in the faith.
There is too much negative comments towards JW's that may/can cause ones (or you) to speak thoughtlessly against ones in the congregation. Therefore caution is needed.

Hi. Thank you for the well worded, POLITE question. I currently am on disability. I am on the net allot to, among other things, sell items on eBay and various other sites. When I first saw Y!A I used it to find info on the various items I sell and buy. To ask questions, you must answer some, so I went to categories I know about. One day for a Larf I typed in Jehovah. Boy was I surprised at how many questions, and often WAY off answers, there were. Since I know about my beliefs, I answer questions about them. I try to be a Witness to others in actions and speech, anywhere, whether online or in the real world. Sure sometimes I stumble, but I try to get back up. I simply answer the questions asked. I try to tailor my answer to the specific question. There is little 2 way communication.

I do appretiate your concern. We must all, whether Witness or not, and, whether on line or not, be careful of who we associate with.

The key word here is Discernment.

As for MySpace. I do have a MySpace page. I strive to keep the content clean. I have seen others, who at least said they were Witnesses, who put up at times shocking content. In general, I have no reason to go to anyone elses page. I periodically use MS to try to find relatives/old friends. I once made the mistake of looking up Jehovah's Witnesses on there. It amazed me how much vile content was put up about us, when I say vile, I dont mean simply disagreeing information either. It is up to each of us to try to do what is right and to make these choices.

Seperate from concern over purely spiratual ideologies is the fact that at times when people use places like MySpace they put up rather "Adult" items. I know that 2 people I used to be rather close to, years ago put up alot of stuff that seemed innappropriate. One had photos of herself, not all of them with her completely clothed. The other friend used the "F" word allot. It is a place for people to be able to express themselves. This in and of itself is not a bad thing, however, as with ALL things in life, we must be careful what we choose to view.

With myspace its an association thing here you just get yelled at. Sort of like you do at the door. Its developing close associations with people who are against god that is to be avoided.

To Carol (above) I respect her for her answer but don't have the "status" to give her a thumbs up. Honestly, I don't know why it would be negative to learn about other people's ideas of your religion. If it helps you, or strengthens you, or makes you question that's okay. If you feel like you can't question anything, then you will never be fully committed to your G-d. If you feel like the site hurts you or upsets you, then avoid it. But don't take someone else's word for it. Noone can determine or ordain your faith or your relationship with g-d. So, good luck to you and good for you for taking it on whole heartedly-that's what G-d wants ultimately. Not some blind dumb faith that someone told you about.
