I know that the common time someone is shipped out each year is around 6 months, but does that just mean this is the time you are away from home or is it the actual time you are at sea. So, basically are you out at sea for six months before you go into any port or during this time are you stopping off at different ports during those months.

Depends on the type of vessel.... Most often there are 3-4 stops on a 6 month crise, sometimes more... sometimes the cruises are longer, up to 9 months.

I think smallboys pull in more frequently than carriers or subs... but I'm not certain... I've been a carrier gal all my time....

Way back when I was in we deployed on a 7 month Med cruise. We spent the first 28 days at sea playing war games in the Atlantic. During the 6 months we were in the Med we hit at least a dozen ports. We were at sea from 5 to 15 days between ports.

I believe when your in the Navy your shipped out to sea for about 6 months. Then you stop at different ports along the area in which you are traveling. It all depends on what kind of ship your on. Nuclear Submarines are at sea for 6 months without stopping at any port, it is a true mystery of the government, they travel everywhere and the public cannot know. Protecting america.

you are out to sea aprox. 6 months (time from home port) You should hit a port at least once 3 times while out. There is a thing if you don't hit a port in x days (wanna say like 45 but it could be more) then you are rationed two beers, Which you can then sell for lots of money. I know for most of my hubbies deployments he would hit port once or twice a month.
