I am living proof that there are some people who no matter how hard they try, can not grasp faith. Have you heard of something called the God gene? I seriously wonder if such a thing exists.

When I was much younger I did earnestly attempt to make myself believe in God. I've read the Bible, cover to cover and I can safely say nothing creates atheists as effectively as carefully reading the Bible. Frankly, I find the Bible an abhorrent example of both man's and God's fundamentally evil nature. I have tried praying many times (even a few times lately) and the result is always the same -- an acute sense of embarrassment for being so foolish as to attempt to communicate with a non-existent mythological imaginary being. Truthfully, I don't see how any non-believer could try harder than I have. No amount of pretending can make a true atheist believe. As far as I can tell, believers sincerely believe and atheists sincerely don't believe, and neither can even begin to understand the other's position, much less accept it.

I have noticed that Christians don't hear us when we atheists say we don't (or can't) believe in God. The immediate response is a Biblical quote, which is completely irrelevant to an atheist. What use is the inerrant word of a non-existent deity? We reply that it's not about the Bible, it's about God. Next, we hear all about Jesus' sacrifice -- blah, blah, blah. Please provide an explanation for the existence of God, we repeat. Then we're forced to endure more irrelevent Biblical blather. No matter how many atheists ask in countless different ways, no Christian even attempts to explain how it is they know God actually exists in a meaningful way, in this objective reality. There's always some lame excuse, a change of subject, a shameless verbal diversion. For an atheist, none of Christianity and none of the Bible are even worthy of consideration if you cannot prove the existence of your principle deity. If you truly wish to convert an atheist to Christianity, this is the question you must answer: Where is your God and how can you prove He is real? (Or, where is God and how can I prove to myself He is real?) Until this essential question is resolved, everything else is totally irrelevent.

Respectfully...............

I was Taught to develop A personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That is, How I feel about Him, the things I pray for and who I prasie, the path of my life, the things I question and the tests Christ has set before me will of course be different from my neighbor.

Faith is an integral part of religion but understanding your path is unique will help your relationship with Christ Flourish. It is a Very comforting thought too. Here's why: Ever meet someone and they seem to know the bible front and back and seem to really have it together? Well that's very nice and all but you have to have faith that Your path is as unique as you are and intended to be different from theirs, not the same.

Understanding Christ is as easy as opening your heart. Not like some other puffed-chest bible beating moron who is trying to tell you what your relationship SHOULD be but (by the way they are committing the sin of pride) but quietly and in you private moments. When you are doing dishes, cooking, doing your hair before work, You know the mundane tasks of life that cause our mind to wander. Those are the moments you ponder about your life, repeat conversations in your head, figure things out. Turn that into a prayer. Think the same things Good, bad , glad, sad. Worry , joy but turn them over to Christ. That way, you are conciously and unconconciously developing a relationship that is unique to you.

Also, this is key to remeber: it IS okay to becom Angry with God, after all he a can handle it. Have faith.

In a lot of cases, the Bible seems to push them away.

I think WE need to work backwards, try harder, to gather some valid bit of evidence of God's existence and maybe...

But until then, lets just sit back, pray for them, and as they have said many times, help out a tad bit more in society and stop all the judging. We could try to be a little nicer, which might get them to listen to us a little more in the first place.

as Christians, it's our responsibility to pray for unbelievers.
I believe that people are on a quest to understand their origins. When they find a satisfactory answer for themselves, they tend to guard that answer. When I witness to people, I try not to use phrases like "read a bible". That means nothing to them. Instead, I simply talk about my life and ask questions about theirs. If the conversation continues such that they begin to ask me questions, I will answer according to my experiences or the experiences of other Christians I know. If prompted, I will relate the experience to the bible. Some become more curious as to what exactly is contained in the bible.... others want to know more of my experience, and still others dismiss it altogether. There isn't anything further to do other than continue to love them and pray for them.

blessings :)

Instead of trying harder, just let God be God and man be the sinner.

When God is inviting the sinner to be saved, He will give the grace and mercy. In His loving kindness, He will pursue the man (or woman) such as the object of His love. And He will use His Holy Spirit to moved the heart of stone.

You have got it wrong. We plain old just don't believe in gods, especially the Christian version of god. Many of us have read the bible, more than once.

You try harder you might not like what you get. You try way to hard as is is.

Seems kind of odd you would want to ask believers what I/we think. I'm the only one who can know what I think.

You can pray sincerely and ask God for help. He will provide the help you need, whether a person to ask your questions, or a book you are reading, or in the Bible, or even a television program.

You can email me to ask your questions, and I will try to answer them or refer you to a source I know of that might help.

I can also try to explain my faith to you, if that will help.

hope i helped.

realizing that it's actually the work of the Holy Spirit that does the saving, I would first pray for them

then take them to a beautiful park, countryside, etc
and ask them to be still and focus on the balance and beauty come from a God who loves and cares for them daily
then . . . I'd leave the rest to God
