U know usually it would only leave a tiny pin prick, it left a tiny prick , nothing big, but there is a white spot around it about as big as a nickle. A little whiter than her complexion. I've never seen anything like this before... c0ULD MY SISTER HAVE LIME DISEASE!?

oh, and please, if you don't know what you're talking about, don't say anything like ''I don't know, but I would definately get it checked out.''

I'm looking for real people who have done their share of research. Is that pale spot around it a sign of lime disease?

Have your mother get your sister to a Lyme literate physician RIGHT AWAY. You can find referrals at http://www.lymenet.org . Lyme disease (and other TBDs) are extraordinarily complex diseases. THe majority of peditricians are (sadly) undereducated when it comes to diagnosing and treating these illnesses.

Early treatment is VITAL. I can not emphasize this strongly enough.

DO NOT settle for an "ELISA" or lyme titer. They are woefully insufficient and often result in false negative (I won't bore you with the scientific details regarding why this is so).

Your sister needs a WESTERN BLOT. It needs to be evaluated by a lab specializing in tick-borne illnesses (e.g., Igenex, MDL, Bowen). It would also be wise to screen for other common tick borne illnesses including erlichia, bartonella, and babesiosis.

Watch your sis carefully for ANY unusual symptoms. ALthough the telltale "bullseye" rash is definitive for Lyme disease, only about 30% of people get this. IN other words, just because she doesn't develop the bullseye rash does not mean she is out of danger.

She should be started on doxycycline or amoxicillian prophalactically until her results are back.

Tell your mother to get SOLID information on tick borne illnesses. Start at lymenet.org. Another good source is ilads.org.

Best of luck to you and your sis,
~M~

p.s. Take pictures of the tick bite site for documentation purposes. Trust me on this one. It's important.

p.p.s. Lyme rashes vary WIDELY. The bullseye sort is the most common, however. Watch carefully to see if the "white" area is just a clearing around the bite, and if it develops a red ring around that. If it does, get her to the pediatrician, and do not leave until you walk out with a script for antibiotics. It can take awhile to get an appointment with a lyme literate physician. In the meantime, she will need to be treated prophalactically.

p.p.p.s. Did you keep the tick, or can you dig it out of the trash?? If so, you may be able to save your sis a blood test. There are several labs which will test the tick itself (dead or alive) for lyme and other TBDs.

The ticks that carry Lyme ailment are particularly small, like smaller than the top of pin. it particularly is carried by way of deer ticks. If the tick became bigger then it became in all threat no longer a deer tick, which won't complication plenty. Watch the placement have been the chew got here approximately, if it develops a purple ring, bulls eye form of trend then get the blood try. A blood try is the only thank you to comprehend for specific.

It is too early too tell. Watch the area and if she has Lyme disease a rash will appear that will favor a "bulls-eye" usually. If you see a rash of any kind come up I would get to a doctor. The white spot doesn't mean anything to me, but it might to someone else.

lyme's diseasse is like a bulls eye. its white int he middle and red around it.
A deer tick has to be in the skin for 24 hours before it can transmit lymes, If so get her to the doctor and they will put her on antibiotics to prevent her from getting lymes.
