how old is the tattoo? it sounds like there is a scar. if the tattoo is still new it is possible to make the scar go down. the same thing happened to my foot on part of the outline and i just continued to put A&D on the scarred part for about three months after it healed and the bump went down. if it's an older tattoo then you are probabaly just stuck with a scar.

Your body will scar differently in different areas, it's a new tattoo, so give it a while to fully heal.
If the mound is still healing or scabbed and tender, red and oozing you need to worry and get it checked out, if not just chock it up to scar tissue and enjoy your tattoo!
Also know on some people tattoos do different things in different weather, mine puff up when I get cold, or just once in a while for no reason, it's the scar tissue, and it itches then goes down again. that might be the case with you too.

Hi,
it's called infection. It is a fairly normal result of sticking needles into your flesh and mutilating the skin (which is exactly what any tattooing is, however disgusting it sounds)
It should eventually clear up quite naturally and leave you with the picture or design you intended. Then you have the rest of your life to regret having it done. You may scoff now, but remember this 'answer' when you are middle aged and depressed at the sight of faded and distorted pictures disfiguring your skin.
This is bad enough for a man, and for a woman it will be regretted even more.
Tattooing is rarely considered a 'good' idea (except by tattoo artists and 'just done' young people)
Sorry (I think you may have guessed I'm not too keen on self mutilation)
I did answer you question, though.

I agree with jj1 on this... my lower back tat is raised in SEVERAL spots...scar tissue...the guy went deep with it. If it is already healed then it will most likely stay like that, it is probably the area or how deep the artist went...FYI I have had mine for 4 years.
If it is super bad and disfigures your tat then it may have been the artist wasn't doing something right OR you didn't take care of it correctly while it was healing....other then that it is normal on some people for the scar tissue to raise a bit...after all you just were poked with a needle countless times!
I think it feels neat personally! LOL

Just leave it alone-don't pick at it or anything, some tattoos scab up really quickly,my partner has a wrist tattoo and hers scabbed & healed quickly.Once the whole of the scab has come off naturally then if it's faded you should go back to the tattooist who did it and they should (if they are a decent reputable artist!) re-colour it for free.

Sometimes tats will have raised edges when you are dehydrated. I've had mine for a few years and it's normally nice and smooth, but after a night of drinking it will have raised edges the next morning. Drink a lot of water to rehydrate and it'll go down in a few hours. Also a good lotion helps. I apply it to mine at least weekly to keep the skin moist.

They might have pressed really hard in one spot and gone deeper then they needed to (scar tissue). Nothing to worry about. I have a few on my upper arm as well, and have had them for a few years.
p.s. You don't need to go back to the tattoo artist, and when you do anything to your body, its going to scar

that is your tatoo healing. you should be keeping it moist with A&B ointment. do not pick at it and keep it covered and out of the sun. if its on your back where most girls have them right at the belt line, you should abstain from sex and wear loose pants (like sweats) that the waist band can be kept above the level of the tat. after it heals if there is an area in the tat that is scarred it can be recolored and usually results in the loss of the scar
