Adam and Eve weren't punished simply because they wanted to be gods. It was the context in which they had that desire that was wrong, and drew expulsion from Eden. Satan deceived them, offering them the 'quickie' way to godhood that didn't involve obeying God's commandments.

Mormons believe that by being obediant to God's commandments, we may obtain all that He has to give, including godhood (John 10:31-42, KJV).

Brigham Young taught the Adam-is-God thing to probably get around that.

I wouldn't put too much thought of one myth as inconsistent with another. Adam and Eve is metaphorical at best, mormonism teaches theological 'fact', not matter how ludicrous it seems. Neither is any reason to be concerned about.

You need to include a refernce that shows that is why they were punished. I just read Genisis chapter 3 it says that they were punished for partaking of the fruit.

So that is a very weak argument.

Probably because it was the doctrine that was told to them from the time of their prophet Joseph Smith. Adam and Eve were punished for eating of the fruit because it was forbidden of them and that also includes for succumbing into the temptation to be gods.

They were told they could be AS the gods, knowing good and evil. And that's just what happened (Genesis 3:22).

Paul said that we can be heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ.
