A ..22 cal
Assuming .22lr (Long rifle) The most common .22 and possibly the most common cartridge ever.
Will cost you between $60 for a used single shot rifle to over $50,000 for a one-off rarity.
My suggestion is a Ruger 10/22 if you want a rifle=$150-$200
or a Browning Buckmark if you want a pistol=$200-$250

It depends. A Ruger Mk III can cost as little as $250, less if you buy a used one. Or you could easily spend over $600 on a Kimber Rimfire.
If you're looking at rifles, rather than handguns, Henry and Marlin both make models that are just a little over $100. Kimber, again, makes superior .22 rifles, available for anywhere around $700 to over $2,000.
It all depends on what you're looking for.

You can get a Ruger 10/22 for about 150, depending on were you go.
I would recomend a Ruger 10/22,
Very easy to matain, fun to shoot, and there are tons of after-market accesories for 10/22's.

You can get a Marlin model 60 .22 for around $100. It's a very nice gun for the money.

A Henry Lever Action will cost around $200.I know that might seem to high, but it is one of the best .22's out on the market. It shoots cleanly and smoothly.
