I have a 1 year old female pompoochi and she loves to play with other dogs. I thought she needs a sister to play with all the time. I adopted a 2 year old carin terrier and the humane society people said she also loved to play with other dogs. They are not getting along much less playing with each other. Every time my pompoochi tries to play by her self the carin walks over and stares at her and circles her until she lies down in submission. Everytime the pompoochi tries to play with the carin she growls and it ends in a fight. I thought it would make my pompoochi's life happier and I think I ruined her life. Will they ever get along? How can I help the process along?

Sounds like this is more of a territory issue than anything else. Depending on how long you've had the second dog, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If she's pretty new (a few days or a week) then she's still trying to get her territory in the house while the other dog is defending her territory. I think that as long as they don't do any real physical harm to each other, anything more than a few nips and light bites, then they will eventually get along. If they start fighting and drawing blood on each other, then it's time to get rid of the adopted one. If you're really concerned, contact your vet for their advice. They can also set you up with a trainer that can probably help you and both dogs.

Sounds like they should be cats, since this is a "cat fight"!! Anyway, try talking to the humane society again. They were the ones that recommended you get the terrier, so maybe they can help you get the two dogs get along. Best of luck.

How long have you had the cairn? Hmm... well, it may just take some time for the Cairn to get comfortable, and she wants to be dominant. There will always be growling, but this problem should be resolved in time. The pampoochi will get it through her head, eventually, and will know not to mess with the alpha. Alpha dogs usually don't play too. *Knows from experience* Worst case, you 1 year old will be bitten and leave the Cairn alone for a while, then things will be fine.

Two females generally will not get along well together.A terrier female especially.I'm surprised the humane society adopted you a female with a female already in residence. If you check with your vet he should have some local trainers that could help you with this.Even if they just agree to disagree but, inhabit the same home.

I think that two female terriers will never get along well.
