My brother would like to know how old you have to be to own a pistol.

I think it depends on the state you live in, but I know in MI you have to be 18 to own one, but 21 to buy one. It may sound weird but 18-21 year olds can receive pistols from another person but cannot buy them from a store.

In VA you have to be 21 to buy and carry a handgun.Also, you have to have a permit.

18-21 and they check your liscense and i think they make sure you dont have a criminal gun record
