it would depend on the church.
Latterday Siants aka Mormons believe
that at death you go to a place called the spirit world
heaven and hell would be the best terms for it, those that were good experincing peace, those that were bad being tormented.
At the second coming as talked about in revelations 20, that we will be judge.
then there are three degress of glory, mention by Paul as the sun, moon, and stars. In Corinthians 15:40-42.
The judgement being on how well we followed God with the knowledge that we had of him, this being the works that is mentioned in Revelations 20:13.
For example a man that only had a chance to learn 10 things and followed 9 would be more rightious than one that had the chance to learn 100 and only followed 43.The man that had the 10 followed God better since out of the 10 that God gave him he did 9.
Receiving a reward as in the level of brightness of the three lights above.

Life is a mystery. In another forum long ago I posed an analogy that a new born baby in the womb is being prepared for a new world that he does not even know exists yet, until he is born.
I also mentioned that no man knows how life started. If life came from nonliving things, then how did it do that? Therefore how can we be sure that we know our own life will end at death, that is when our physical bodies die.
I believe there is only one book that is unapologetic that there is life after death. But it defines death as being that our soul is out of the body. And there have been many "out of the body experiences" that have shown this to be true. Yet even despite those experiences we doubt them. So if we can't believe them. And we can't believe the Bible. Then what do we trust?
I choose to believe in what the Bible promises for those who believe in Jesus Christ.
Thanks for a great thinking question for a change.

If you repent and believe that Jesus Christ died for your personal sins and that he rose again the third day you will go to Heaven.
Only you can make that decision no one can make it for you.
If you don't you are bound for Hell no if ands or butts about it;
it's not like you die find out it's for real and say I believe. It will be to late.
John 3:16-17
(16) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.(17) For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world might be saved through him."
Hell is for real. The flames are never extinguished.
Make the choice for yourself.

I honestly believe in both. There is a book called Elsewhere that is about this topic. I love the way it words what I feel. It says that after you die, you go to neutral grounds (Elsewhere). You can meet others who have passed and view the living. Then you slowly start to get younger. Say you died when you were 20. Then you would rewind your life for 20 years in Elsewhere, then you are sent back to Earth as another being. You should read this book.

in my opinion, and according to the common belief of many religions, if you do good with the short time you have here on earth, you are graciously thanked and if you do evil, you reap the consequences..
real quick, you get what you deserve.
personally, i believe in reincarnation and breaking the cycle of death and birth through reaching nirvana and or enlightenment
"love many, trust few, harm none."

The day before I die, the sun will come up. The birds will sing. People will engage in their daily routines.
The same thing will happen the day after I die.
Except that there will be another seat on the bus.

Heaven is a fairy tale. My guess is eternal bliss. Maybe reincarnation(every living thing started as one but seperated phisicaly from itself so maybe your perspective goes into another living being?)

The people that have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour will go to heaven. The people that have rejected the Lord Jesus Christ will go to hell. God gives each one of us the opportunity to choose or reject His gift which is eternal life through Jesus Christ. These are not my words but the words of God from His Holy Book the Bible.

Great -'What do you believe?', followed by, 'what happens when you die?'.
If you're going through the whole sequence of Most Repeated Damfool R&S Questions, I guess the next one will be 'Atheists: why don't you believe in God?' - right?
