Performance is identical. The 32 Rem. was developed precisely to compete head-to-head with the 32 Special, except in the Model 8 Autoloader instead of the 94 lever action. Since they had the cartridge for that reason, they went ahead and chambered pump guns and bolt actions for it, too, but it was meant for semi-auto. If you want, you can think of it as a rimless version. Of course, they can't be interchanged in a particular rifle.
