There must be far more atheists in jail than believers? With atheists having no morals at all and no dusty book. I would hazard a guess as 95% non belivers 5% belivers. Anyone help me on this one?

My husband is a correctional officer (prison guard) one of the jokes amongst the guards is how many prisoners "Find religion" while there..

I would not hazard a guess as to how many of the prisoners who attend the various religious meetings and study groups available each week are true beleivers.. But roughly 50% of prisoners attend at least 1 reigious meeting per week... These meetings include a non-denominational meeting on sunday in the prison chapel as well as various (Mormon, JW, Muslim, Baptist, and other) study groups held by visiting religious people per week..

I am an Atheist no I do not beleive in the bible or any other religious book/text.. I do have morals and a code of ethics I live by as do all Atheists...

LOL, you couldn't be more wrong.

According to a survey of the religions of prison inmates (their religion at the time of committing the crime, ignoring in-jail conversion), atheists are about 50 times less likely to go to jail than Christians. Want proof? Yes, I'm sure you do. :P Here it is:

http://holysmoke.org/icr-pri.htm

About 80% of the US population is Christian.

According to the survey, a little over 80% of prison inmates are Christian. So that gives an unsurprising ratio, about 1:1. Pretty much 'normal.'

But atheists are something like 8-16% of the population (I'll lowball it and say 10% instead of the median 12 for both easier math and rounding down in the anti-atheist's favor (and for anyone who reads this that buys into the atheism = immorality nonsense)). So, 10%.

According to the prison survey, about 0.2% (hey, if I can take 2-3% off the Christian number, I can take 0.1% off the atheist number for easier math) of inmates are atheist (read: there are more Scientologists in jail than atheists). So, what's the ratio here?

It's 1:50. One to FIFTY. That is a huge difference. It is pretty strong evidence to suggest, not that Christians are immoral, but that however moral Christians in the US are, atheists are much more so on average.

P.S. Keep in mind that these statistics are of the religion AT THE TIME OF THE CRIME. It does not take any converting to other religions that happens after being jailed into account.

Not true. I was a corrections officer for over twenty years and I can tell you that most prisonsers believe in God. The problem is that most do not see their chosen religion as a way of life and only call upon God when thay want him to get them out of trouble. When the heat is off they return to their old behavior patterns, as do most of us.

Hahaha oh boy another very badly educated christian. You figures are almost exactly reversed.

0.209% of prison the US prison population are non religious.

or to make it really really simple for you

159 people out of a total population of 74,741.

The divorce rate is highly amusing as well. Get on your knees and pray boy. Hahahahahaha!

Whenver someone comes to see me in prison, they always have a faith. there is about a 99% believer populace in prison. Most of them claim their time was given to them as a test by a higher power, but almost all believe they were innocent of the crimes charged against them.

Many have found God in jail but we really do not know the true count as many may not be genuine. To do such horrific crimes they did not have God in the first place. Only God knows the truth to that one and the numbers of who will be saved. The gate is narrow--Pray for them all.

I think your guess is a bit off. Less than 1%of the prison population is an atheist.

Do I detect a bit of bias in you assumption.

goto prision and take a poll!

Morals are based on human test. Every sane person knows right from wrong, they do not need a book to tell them this!

I believe it's something like 60-80% of prisoners believe in a god.

But it makes no difference to Christians. They're like "ZOMG!!! EVEN THE DEBIL BELIEBS IN GOD BUT HE TWEMBLES!!!!!!!1!!!!!11!!!!ONE!!!!!"
