If you want to save a ton of money on hotels, rental cars & other stuff, you need to check out Hotels Etc. Their website is www.hotelsetc.us/561 I got one of their lifetime discount cards & saved over $140.00 in hotel room costs my first time I used it. The discounts never expire and you don't have to renew anything. It's well worth it!
You will find plenty of things to do in Manhattan that are free or inexpensive including museums & shows at Central Park.
(Just stay out of the park at night!) :) You might want to check out the South Street Seaport Museum. It has a very old sailing ship you can tour thats pretty cool.

Go to Central Park....very nice park, free to get in.
I will suggest you go onto the Circle Line which takes you around NYC on a boat. Its approximately $25.00 for 2 hours. You get on it on the West Side Highway. It's definitely a great tour.
If you are into Museums, go to anyone of the museums. They suggest a donation of like $12.00 but since its a donation, you can give them $1.00 and they have to accept it and let you in.
You can also ride those NYC tour buses, but honestly it sucks.
At the Circle Line spot, you can also ride on this thing called THE BEAST, its a speed boat and it is a lot of fun.

There's usually a festival every weekend in the summer, so you can probably find some cool things there.

Get a "CityPass", they give discounts for many of the major attractions that you want to go too. You can order one on-line for NYC as well as many other city's. You should also visit the website for any other attraction you wish to visit, many will give a discount if you purchase your tickets on-line. Just make sure to check out the CityPass first so you don't double up on anything.
