Well if your room is full of stuff, and you want to get rid of some of, you could recycle. Thats what I did today. I went through my drawers and put a whole bunch of old papers in bag so I can recycle them. You could also start up a business with friends and start walking down streets and pick up cans on the side of the road or something and recycle! Good luck!

You can do all sorts of things to recycle:
1. Use old clean cans for flower pots, you can paint them first and put in pansies, geraniums, or any vine plants and set them is an arrangements of different sizes. Or use them for nails, tacks, screws ect...
2. Glass jars with the lids screwed to a 2x4 attach the board to the wall in a garage and use the glass jar for the nails ect... or in a room for small craft beads and buttons, pins and needles ect...
3. Reuse gift bags given to you
4. Have kids (if you have them) get involved with recycling in the home. Make a game of it.
5. Bring your own bags to the grocery store, you can buy cloth ones or make them yourselves. Or use boxes the store has and then use the box to use for donations for abuse centers, charities, and food pantries.
6. Use the plastic pop bottles for bird feeders and houses.

That is just a start there is too many things to mention

You can make ANYTHING 'fun" - even work! I know a local church whose youth group sponsors a recycling program four times a year. They'll pick up your old newspapers, magazines, telephone books, cardboard, aluminum cans, computers, glass, steel, ink cartridges, cell phones, paper, plastics, tin, used cooking oil, wood, plastic bags, gently-used clothing, furniture, and virtually anything else that is recyclable. All they ask is that you sort it before they pick it all up...or, you can bring it to their church parking lot on the four Saturdays of the year when they hold their event. It's a lot of work, but the kids make it a lot of fun. They learn a lot about recycling.....and they raise money for their church field trips, etc. -RKO- 05/20/07

One thing that a friend of mine did that I thought was a great idea was she used pieces from the gears of a bike and made candle holders. They're actually really cool looking. Also, I take old clothes that no longer fit me (and aren't in good enough condition to pass on to someone else who might want to wear them) and make reusable gift bags. I just sew them into rectangular (or wine bottle sized) bags with a cinching string through the top and give friends gifts in them. Last week I bought a friend a soy candle and a bottle of lotion and made a gift bag for her... she plans to pass it on when she does some gift giving.

Old Cloth of any kind = Make Washable, Re-usable CHEAP bags... all kinds of sizes for anything.. to put shoes in when going on a trip, to take to the grocery (instead of paper or plastic)... to use as gift bags instead of paper bags or paper wrap...to make diaper bags out of... to make quilts out of... a friend of mine even uses layers of old cloth (cotton sheets, t-shirts, etc... to make cloth diapers, bedpads, and cloth potty-pads for dogs...... and sucessfuly SELLS THEM)... old-fashioned Rag Rugs... pin-cushions... this list is endless!!!

Plastic, metal, or glass Containers = sorting, storage, planters, if they have a lid, they are good to use to temporarily hold items for Compost Pile.. Plastic Milk jugs & soda bottels make good bird feeders.

Wine Glasses, and other glass... for a small amount of money you can get a glass cutter. A friend of mine started a small business on making drinking glasses, pen holders, and flower vases out of used Glass Bottles.. she collects used bottles from anyone she can (family, friends, restaurants, bars) and then makes really neat things by simply cutting them & smoothing the edges of them. She has even made funnels out the "other end". She sells them at craft shows, art festivals, music festivals, etc... I have a complete set of 8 glasses that once wer bottoms of bottles from her as a gift.

Wine Corks.. I recently saw an article in a magazine where a man had saved up wine corks & found a round table at the thrift store & then covered the top with Corks... it was a work of art... you had to see it to believe it.

I know a man who took used glass baby food jars & hot-glued them to pieces of stacked wood... to make a three tiered screw & nail sorter for his workshop.. he can see the contents easily.

and of course, my dog believes in recycling beef bones.. any that I would've thrown away, he eats

My laundry line at home is actually cable-line that we ripped of the outside of the house (we don't even own a TV & don't want to own one).. we then strung this between a tree & our camping trailier -- Viola - Laundry Line!!

A nearby house has been empty & neglected for years, the roof has rotted completely... when we moved in we didn't ahve a bathroom sink. We noticed the falling down house. Raymond carefully investigated... it had the original 1950s sink (a perfect match to our original 1951 house with it's original toilet, tub, tile, etc.....)... the owner was happy to let us re-claim the sink.... in addition, we reclaimed doorknobs, two interior doors, some exterior wood, and two windows... We arranged for another person to come reclaim the windows, the bathtub, the toilet, the kitchen sink & hardware.. that person knew somone that re-claimed the hardwood floors, the fireplace mantle & brick as well as the foundation brick --- the few items that were left were cleared by all of the recipients... and this time next year, the soil will be in good enough condition that we can have a Community Garden

We personally gained an original-period bathroom sink, made a cold-frame, and the majority of a greenhouse, as well as repaired one area of our house all for the labor of reclaiming items.

Just about any old container can be used as a flower pot if you poke holes in the bottom.
