you answered your own question homie.OF COURSE god cares that so and so made a touchdown or a boxer knocks out some chump.god is right there when it happens.it was important to god that it happened.
who cares if a baby in kenya is dying as i write this cuz he cant get anough to drink or eat.who cares if theres plenty of disease and little food and water in ethiopia.or mindless wars(after all, they are fought for him).nevermind the woman getting raped or the drunk driver killing some 1 as i write this.all that matters is that certain athlete prevailed.all because it was at the top of gods list.
guess the losers will have to wait for the day when god is on their side.

Neuro cognitive linguistics suggests that by making the sign of the cross it is focusing the individuals eye movement in ways that make them more satisfied, and more confident. So, when you make the sign of the cross you look up, down left, right (or eastern Orthodox goes up, down, right, left ... which produces different response to brain). "Looking up" to the sky produces the most confident and opens the person to breating more efficiently, and this brings ease and confidence.
However, for many religious people they don't know they're doing this (positive neuro cognitive linguistics enhancer) and it's a gesture to usually say "Thanks" ... usually giving thanks for the opportunity to be where they are. I personally don't know anyone who uses this for "gain" however, I don't always hang out with professional baseball players (giggle).

It gives them strength. It doesn't matter if their god is true or their religion is delusion or not..The faith they have gives them inner strength that they cannot achieve with any other way..the religion is a way people use to help themselves, because of the belief they are not alone, achieve things in their life..People have to believe in something because believing just in themselves it's difficult..Delusion or not religion and faith is essential for people..If you do not have faith life can be very difficult...

I've always found this is a little odd as well. Not when they point to the sky or something, but when they actually thank God for the victory. You never see the losing team blaming God for sabotaging their chances:O

Ok,this is mean! They are just praising God for the chance to play the game.I think God cares about every single game that a athlete plays.

The reason they make the sign of the cross or kiss up above because they want gods power to help them or thank god for his gift. It's not like they have or developed that talent they inherited it by God.

LOL. Here's another one. Why do religious athletes always give all the credit to God when things go well......but none of the blame when things go poorly?
Seems like athletes are getting a crappy deal from their God.

Because they're incredibly selfish. To pray that you win, is in effect, to pray that someone else loses. Not very nice is it?
