The name "Hindu" originates from a persian word which was used to describe all inhabitants that lived below the sindhu river. So with this stupid logic, everyone in India is a Hindu.

In light of the fact that the vedas comprises the fundamental doctrines of the "Hindu" religion, do you agree that Hinduism should be re-named "Vedism", or "brahmanism" or something else???

Some Vedic and Brahmanic beliefs/system does not go hand in hand with other branches of Hinduism (or at least considered 'Hindu' under Indian laws).

I say, Hindus can call themselves Vedics or Brahmans but somehow, it will lead to other meanings as people outside the religion are ignorant about it. All names and labels are artificial labels and were never called at such a way even in those ancient days...

The very root meaning of Vedic religion refers to study and it has to reflect upon education, knowledge or wisdom.

Another problem that I think is difficult to rename Hinduism into any particular terms is due to the fact that 'Hindu' sects are not unified in any form of system or teachings. Then there are also hermits and other ascetics (Sadhus) who go into solitary practice who teaches contradicting teachings amongst one another (I'm not saying anything good or bad here, its the Dharma I am referring to, which are described into many different forms)...

We can give many names for Hindusim, like Vedism, Brahmanism, Gitaism, Krishnaism, Bhartism, etc.etc., and we will not be able to come to conclusion on this. As we address our Gods or Goddesses, we can give 1008 alternate names for Hinduism.

It does not matter where from the name Hindu has come, we can use Hinduism only as it is very well know for ages and it is respected world wide excepting by some fanatics. We are proud as Hindus and hence our religion also be continued to be called as HINDUISM. -

1. A Rose by another name smells as sweet.
Why worry about a name?

2. The Vedas gave the basic knowledge required by every human being to lead a 'good' God fearing life

All such eligious knowledge belongs to every human being
& is NOT the private property of any one human individual / or group
The Vedas / the Bible / the Koran etc. belong to humanity. No particular group / religion can claim ' Intellectual property Rights' over any such knowledge

3.The caste system is grossly misunderstood

4. Casteism practised today is shameless selfishness & has nothing to do with the basic logic of understanding the 'level' of spirituality a human soul has attained

One must understand that "Hinduism" is not an organised religion. As such it does not have a founder and have it's religious book. "Geeta" is an essence of "Vedas". It is presented as chapter in that great epic "Mahabharat". But it is not the doctinated religious book of "Hinduism".
Beauty of Hinduism is in the fact that it allows one to identify his God dependant upon his intelect, social/educational background and culture. It means it allows every body an access to God of his/her understanding.
Any attempt to make it organised religion would create more problems than would solve. But over a period of time with the help of technological evolution in mass media communication, a consensus about most of beliefs would emerge.
I agree, the name shall be changed. Sanatan Dharma seem a good replacement, as the same mean "from time immemorial".

Veda is philosophy - vedantha is the finality -end of philosophy . evey religion jhas some vedah .so Hinduism alone can not be called a vedhism. Hinduism is the culture of India and religon is a part of it .The vedas speak about worship of God , rituals , conduct in life , medicine , astrology , architecture astronomy, mathematics , engineering black magic etc They are not just religious texts exclusively

I support your idea.. and afraid of the implication. Knowledge is power only when it applied, isn't it? Who is there ready to convince the thousands of mob with different believes in the same religion. If someone is ready to move for that, there is surely hope as the funda is there as Veda and Upanishads...

"Vedism" is an apt one.

Hinduism is a very old culture, tradition, custom and way of lives of Hindus in Hindustan (India) for centuries. The Idols and their worshipping cannot be separated from Hinduism. There are over 330 or 360 millions of Gods and Goddesses in India and millions of temples and shrines with their idols therein. Hundreds of millions of Hindus pray and worship these idols in those temples and shrines.

All, each and every Hindu fights for the IDOL of Lord Rama to be placed in the temple in Ayodhya, to be worshipped and prayed by Hindus. Some modern educated, westernised and over innocent Hindus claim that the idol worship is not Hinduism. They are unnecessarily ashamed to face others. They should be proud of their tradition, custom, belief & faith.

Hinduism is not a religion. It is a culture, custom, tradition, way of Hindus' lives in Hindustan (India). It is claimed and insisted as such by all the well known Hindu priests, scholars, intellectuals, books, scripts, the Ruling Party BJP & Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal, the Indian & International strongest Hindu organisations RSS & VHP, each and every Hindu, etc.

The word Hindu was given by Persians to people living beyond Sindhu river. It was nowhere mentioned in any holy script. A Hindu is born to Hindu parents in Hindustan (India). No Hindu can be without a caste. Castes cannot be changed by any means; they are by birth. The Constitution of India and the Hindu Code (4 separate Acts) included everybody into Hinduism except Jews, Christians, Muslims & Parsis.

All the Indian Central and State Govts. laws, rules, orders, regulations and all the judgements of the Supreme & High Courts always confirmed that Hindus' castes are unchangeable and are by birth only. People unware of Hinduism and influenced by other cultures/religions shout & cry that Hindus' castes are changeable; they conceal the true Hinduism, Indian laws, Courts' judgements, etc., yet cannot fool the other any more. The CASTE column always appears in each and every application form prescribed by Govt. institutions & offices.

Hinduism consists of four varnas (categories) and thousands of castes therein with innumerable Gods & Goddesses for each such caste. Hindus castes are not equal. Hindus' worship and prayer is the job of their caste, they are born in by nature. Those not included in any of the said four varnas (categories) are untouchables ie worst and dirtiest than dirtiest animals. These Varnas (4 categories) are taught in the Holy Bhagavad Geeta, Verses 40-47, Chapter-18, and are not man made to be eradicated or ignored.

A Hindu may embrace and convert to any religion and remain Hindu by nativity. Hindus have no DOs and DONTs; they are liberal & broad minded. There are no requisites or conditions to remain a Hindu. A Hindu born to Hindu parents in Hindustan (India) will always be a Hindu even if he denies & rejects Hinduism; believes & prays (or not) to a different God every time, etc. The only way to renounce Hinduism is to embraces a religion & to convert as a Jew, Christian, Muslim or Parsi, as per all Indian laws.

I think it's not up to us to decide ... yes we can discuss about it but shouldn't the devotees like the hindu society be giving suggestions whether it should be changed or not? Maybe it is just not meant to be changed ? who knows .....

My answer to this will be .... Regardless of what people call that religion ... it is actually the same in respect.

Why go after name? It shows you are only trying to classify people and not following any philosophy/religion of Vedanta. Also by basing the religion on Vedas alone, why you want to limit our religion?
