Its true. I was reading the history of islam and women before islam were treated basically like cattle. Men married however many women they wanted to marry and that law in the Quran allowing up to 4 wives was actually a restricion on the arab men. And the verse came after the battle of Uhud when so many women were widows and had no one to support them. It gave permission for the men to marry more than one wife to help them. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was bothered by the way women were treated so one of the things he did was improve their treatment. Not all women were treated the same however. For example, Khadija was a wealthy woman and handled business. But this was an exception. She liked Muhammad (pbuh) for his honesty and trustworthiness and proposed to him. People see hijab and say this is what islam did to woman but really hijab was seen as something noble and still is by muslims. this may not be something others understand. To understand what islam did for women it is important to look back at arabia and the status of women before islam. We cant compare women in 7th century with women in the 21st century. For his time, Muhammad (pbuh) was a feminist. People need to read unbiased sources of Muhammad(pbuh)'s life and they will realize they know nothing about him. I dont really like reading from islamic sources either because they might be a little biased too. What I mean is even reading from unbiased non-muslim biographies of Muhammad (pbuh)'s life, people can see what a legacy his life was and what a great man he was

I have read this and also read about the effect of this veiling on young men in Saudi Arabia posted elsewhere , where it seems to have had a much more negative effect if true. If it was the case that what was laid down many centuries ago for very positive reasons was having an altogether more negative effect now would that trouble you? I was certainly troubled by the male attitudes to women in Afghanistan.

Perhaps you all benefit from living in a more Western environment.

hey buddy, woman have rights in Islam and Islam respects woman.woman is in Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity are symbol of love and motherhood.woman are look upon as mother, sister and daughter and are respected. but here in western world, where the everything has changed and old values and norms are very much thrashed and women are very much abused and played with or are pressured to do everything which in olden days women were not supposed to do are very much shadowed under the term equal rights and on the other hand there are some very bad people who call them selves Islamic but has taken the holy book the KORAN and has used bits and pieces from here and there to controll women and they are very successful in doing that. now back to your question, YES Islam Respects Women, It is only some bad apples in the bag which have spoiled the name of Islam and the image of women in Islam. due to these fools, the world looks upon Islam as a religion where women are considered unequal to men and and should live in fear. hope this answers your question......god bless you.

I live in saudi arabia..and i dnt knw wat article u read and wat was writen in tht. I just wanted to tell everyone..tht yes there are these hard feelings for males. men here..but thts the human nature.......

And believ me its so small as compared to the rapes, teen pregnancies, child molestation..and evntually sucides to the west tht..its better to opt this option.

Allah knows.the best..wat ever is given by him in QUran is the best for the whole himanity. till world last as.its the last book from GOD.

2ndly i would like to talk abt the Afganistan situation..so many americans believ htose scenes shown by bignews channels..abt men hitting there wives. Its all wrong...YES, IT happens..but showing just 1 or 2 bad ppl..isnt rite..and logical.

Media isnt in the hands of muslims...Islam is molested everyday , But still its the fasted growing religion in the world...
