I'm a car enthusiast, and I like sports cars.

However, I'm considering on moving to New York sometime in the future. And based on what I know, New Yorkers prefer Public transpo. Why?

Will I be able to use my car conveniently or will I be better off without it on NY?

I'm a car enthusiast too and have no problems driving around NYC in my Audi or BMW. Sure, there is gridlock during rush hour but which big city doesn't have that? Of course, I don't live in Manhattan. When I was younger, I lived with my parents in the Bronx and we had a driveway to park our cars in. I currently live in NJ...about 20 minutes from NYC and the complex I live in has free parking for tenants. So that's why it's still possible for me to own a car in NY/NJ. I've been driving in the streets of NYC (Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan) for over 18 years now. It's not that bad. I'll take driving over taking public transportation anyday. I'd rather be stuck in traffic with my tunes playing and the AC on, then stuck in a subway car with the guy next to me sneezing/coughing into his hand and then holding onto the pole where my hand just was.

Owning a car and living in Manhattan will cost you ALOT of money. It's about $250/month to park your car in a commercial parking garage. If you value your car and want to keep it pristine, driving and parking on NYC city streets is not for you. If you bring your car here, be prepared for bumper scrapes, door dings from unsuspecting cab riders opening up the door into yours, bird droppings from parking under trees, psycho parking attendants, etc... Depending on the make & model of your car...car theft is still popular in the city (especially if you plan on keeping your out-of-state plates).

Good luck with your decision!

It depends on where you will live in New York City.

Manhattan - not a good idea. Parking, Insurance, and sanity will suffer.

Queens, Brooklyn,Bronx - some neighborhoods are close to Manhattan and are very well serviced by public transportation, others bring your car.

Staten Island - bring your car. This is the burbs.

Do what a buddy of mine did. He moved here and left the car home (another state), when he found he did not need or want it. Later he moved to a more suburban area, went back and got his car.

because of the fact, parking and site visitors is a royal discomfort. to not point out the quantity of coverage you will could each and each month, and the maintainces fee to have a vehicle. Beside, new york city, has the larges public transit in the rustic, and between the main inexpensive. The fare on the subway and bus is $2.25 in keeping with holiday, plus you need to purchase funds saving decrease cost enjoying cards for limitless shuttle any everywhere in the 5 boroughs of latest york city. Now it extremely is a extensive funds saver. My suggestion, once you're shifting to NYC, do not difficulty getting a vehicle. sturdy success

If you have a large chunk of change to spend on parking and don't mind absurd amounts of traffic and are good at guessing what other drivers are going to do as to avoid getting hit, then bring the car. Otherwise, I wouldn't. (Especially if the car has any value to you - monetary or otherwise.)

Use public transportation. It is too expensive to put your car in a garage, if you could find one. You can't leave it on the street, and the auto fines in the city are high.Sell your car and if you want to go on vacation, rent one. Auto insurance is beyond belief.

No place to park. Traffic is a nightmare. Psychotic cabbies and bike messengers everywhere. Better off without it, I think.

I would advise against it. Let's see parking, cabbies, limos, buses, double parking on one-way streets(single lane) and last but not least pot holes galore.
