After reading some of the responses on this question, I have to say that I am utterly CONFUSED as to why people keep saying that it's impossible to deport 12 million or so illegals so this is really our only option.THAT IS UNTRUE. All the government has to do is enforce the laws that we already have on our books and remove the reasons for them to stay. If they are not allowed to get free health care, free education, welfare, jobs, and housing, then they will have no choice but to leave.
Illegal immigrants come to this country because we make it so easy for them to live here. Remove the incentives!

It's sad that most Americans are against 'illegal immigration' considering that almost all of them are descendants of the first 'illegal immigrants' who started coming over here exactly 400 years ago this month. As they landed at Jamestown and Plymouth Rock, they stole land from the native American Indians, conned them out of their property, and eventually forced them to live on Indian reservations.
Then, these first 'illegal immigrants' sold, bought and traded slaves as personal property.
Then these 'illegal immigrants' moved westward to a new frontier was abundant with land and natural resources. The Indians, of course, regarded the land as sacred - and as something that belonged to the 'common good' of the community. If an Indian killed a buffalo, it was used for food, clothing and shelter. The "white man", who had illegally immigrated here from Europe to avoid religious persecution and an oppressive and tyrannical government, slaughtered millions of buffalo just for the sheer 'sport' of it. They gutted the land, massacred the only true Americans, and made a mockery out of the reasons why they left Europe in the first place.
But, we say, that doesn't matter! I WAS BORN HERE, and that makes me an American.....and I can't help it that my ancestors did what they did out of fear, hatred, bigotry, bias, and gluttony. I just don't want those new 'illegal immigrants' coming across the border and interfering with MY comfortable lifestyle. After all, I have my OWN fears, bias, bigotries, and gluttonous hatred toward anyone that isn't 'legal'!! -RKO- 05/20/07

What is in our best interest doesn't concern them, being reelected for most is their main concern, or others like Kennedy is about satisfying his do good-er ambitions.
Their only concern when it comes to average Americans is to pay the freight for their ambitions.

How can the government pardon so many criminals ? The laws have been on the books for years. Use some of the 2.5 trillion this proposal is going to cost US the AMERICAN taxpayer, and ENFORCE the law as it is written. This is a repeat of the 1988 proposal..it didn't work then, and it won't work now. LISTEN TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ! ARE WE NOT SHOUTING/ SCREAMING LOUD ENOUGH FOR YOU TO HEAR US in Washington ? Or maybe it's just that you are so out of touch with the rest of us you really don't care ?
Can't this Government hear anything but the sound of cash registers ??
I call for a VOTE of NO CONFIDENCE in the Untied States Government !

They know. But this amnesty has already been promised to the leaders of the countries that send us the most illegal aliens. The illegals don't realize that once they become legal their opinions will matter about as much as ours. They aren't taking over anything, but being taken over. As soon as they are owned like the rest of us their privileges will dry up and blow away like a...well, you know.

Guess what, CONGRESS IS AGAINST ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. That is why they are trying to pass a law to provide another avenue for LEGAL IMMIGRATION.

There is a difference between sealing the borders to all illegal immigration, and sealing the borders to all immigrants. The government really is stepping up enforcement against illegal immigration. In my city, there used to be only one enforcement team, that could only focus on picking up people here illegally who had committed real CRIMES (not just entering the US without permission). Now we have four teams and they are picking up people everyday and are able to now also focus no people who are just here without permission.

Millions of illegals have been here for up to 13 years now.
It should have been stopped long ago. They are trying to
figure out a solution, but rounding up millions of families
and deporting them back to Mexico would be a monumental
job. So, letting those stay and pay, may be the answer. It
doesn't sound fair to those that came here legally, but any
solution will be tough to carry out and non-acceptable to
the illegals.

Most americans are not against it...if you want to work here you need to be legal. Its only fair to the people who live here who can get a job now. If would force employere to pay more money and care about who they hire for quility and not quanity

President Bush does not govern by polls and he wants this amnesty plan BAD.

What is a very interesting development is that right wing Republicans and left wing Democrats agree that they are against this plan, yet for different reasons.
