I've worked minimum wage jobs off and on for the past 6 years but have never filed a tax return. Each year I made less then $6,000 total. I just recently graduated college and am now ready to assert some finacial responsibility, am I due money or would I possibly owe money to the IRS?

You probably weren't required to file for those years.

If you have refunds coming for tax years 2004, 2005 or 2006, you can file and still get your refund without a penalty. Farther back than that, it's too late.

Whether or not you have a refund coming, or even possibly owe money, depends on what you made each year, how much was withheld, and whether you were a dependent of anyone like your parents. The only way to find out is to gather your W-2's and fill out returns for those years. If you could not be claimed as a dependent of anyone for those years, then you'd get back anything you had withheld if your income was all on a W-2.

For example, for 2006, even if you were a dependent, if you made under $5450 you'd get everything back. If you made more than that, you would owe a little but if you had anything withheld, would probably still get most of it back.

If you have the W-2's and want to post the gross income and amount withheld for federal income tax here for those years, someone can give you more exact answers.

Depending on where you live, you might owe state taxes for those years or might not.

as long as you paid taxes while working you should be fine. You however will need to file a tax return for each of the years that you worked and most likely will owe penalties which can add up.

If your stating that you have never filed for yourself and have had them filed, then you wont need to file for past years obviously.
Since your income is so low you will most likely get a refund from the state and federal returns. You will only get a refund if you paid taxes while you were working (meaning every paycheck they were taken out.)

If the most you made was $6000.00 then there would be no taxes due. However, if they took taxes out of your paycheck then you might have been eligible for some tax rebate. You can still file for 2006, 2005, and maybe 2004 if they owe you money. I think it's too late to file for the other years unless you owe them money.
