I am looking for a small digital camera with more than a 4x optical zoom

Canon PowerShot 710 IS has 6x zoom but it's an older model and about to be replaced I think... Maybe you should hold out for that replacement? Probably end of the summer...
Canon PowerShot S5 has 12x zoom..
Nikon S4 and S10 have 10x zoom
Fujifilm FinePix also has several models with bigger zooms, the S5700 has nice specs... and 10x zoom

What is important to know is that the zoom is what makes the camera big, the bigger the zoom, the bigger the camera...
Except for that,
You can also have a smaller optical chip, which allows for a smaller zoom with the same x as a bigger zoom with a bigger chip... bigger chips generally mean better pictures.

There's a SUPER nice camera made by Panasonic, the DMC-TZ3, that has a 10x zoom, 3" LCD, optical image stabilization and 7.2MP... and it's still small enough to fit in your pocket.
