Wrasses are a family of fish, found all over the world. The wrasse I'm most familiar with is the California Sheep-head, which can grow to over 20 pounds. It's got tough skin, but the meat is good, and it's commonly taken while bottom fishing in southern California.
From Wikipedia:
The wrasses are a family, Labridae, of marine fish, many of which are brightly colored. The family is large and diverse, with about 500 species in 60 genera.
Some species are popular aquarium fish; others are popular food fish. In the western Atlantic, the most commonly eaten is the tautog. In the eastern Atlantic, the term 'wrasse' by itself generally refers to the Ballan wrasse, Labrus bergylta.
------
The Ballan wrasse or simply wrasse, Labrus bergylta, is a wrasse of the eastern Atlantic Ocean. Its maximum length is 66 cm.
It is popular as a food fish in the Orkney Islands and in Galway.

Yes ,its a british coastal fish that can be found around rocky coastlines. They are not large fish weighting 2-7lbs on average.Portland Bill is a very good spot as is the river Dart, Salcombe river and the Fowey. Its not very good to eat,due to having lots of bones. There are two types of wrasse the common Ballen which is dark brown in colour and the Cockoo wrasse that is red, blue, gold and or yellow.
