Somewhere I was reading about a large prize for the person who could invent a perpetual motion machine. I've been looking all over for it and havent been able to find it. Does anyone know of any contests or prizes dealing with the invention of a perpetual motion machine?

Why? Have u invented a perpetual motion machine? ;-)

I've also heard of a competition or a prize for inventing a perpetual motion machine. Not sure what its called but if you cant find it you could try emailing the new scientist magazine or some other science periodical. I'm sure they will know about it and be able to point u in the right direction.

Perpetual Motion Prize

Why would there be a contest for something that is just 100% purely impossible?
If someone could invent a perpetual motion machine, there would not be a need for a prize; just proving that all we know about science is wrong, and being able to produce unlimited energy from nothingness would mean to be able to buy and sell Bill Games and Warren Buffet total assets with pocket change.

There will always be that lunatic fringe that refute all that modern science has to offer. Then again, somewhere along the way we found out (thanks to a few on the lunatic fringe) that the world wasn't really flat... Go figure.

Anyway, there is a great web site about the history of attempted perpetual motion machines - and their flaws. To balance things, they also publish an article from Ken Amis who clearly is a proponent of perpetual motion.

Mr. Amis seems to refute the laws of thermodynamics and appears to be making a perpetual motion machine that requires the use of magnetic monopoles and the like. It will be interesting to see. By the way, anyone interested in an investment opportunity?

He does warn that if you get a perpetual motion machine going the wrong way that instead of generating all the energy you can use, it will destroy energy by sucking energy out of anything near it, and has significant weapons potential.

Check out the links below. It's a hoot.

Oh, and uh, good luck!
