hi i was just wondering ... my grandmother told me that if i toast bread then eat it that it has no calories ... to me this seems to good to be true..


is she right??

Well, bread has calories, toasted or not. There is a difference of opinion on how many. According to Nutrition.com, there is no difference in toasted or untoasted bread. However, according to the food databases of CalorieKing.com and Fitday.com, there is a slight caloric difference (one calorie) - regular white bread is 80 calories, whereas regular white bread toasted is 79. Either way, not a big difference and certainly dispells the idea that there are no calories. For future reference, most foods are in the databases of Calorieking.com or Fitday.com, so you can always know how much your eating. And fitday.com allows you to have your own free online account so that you can keep track daily of your food intake (and all corresponding nutrients) as well as energy burned. It's very cool!

No, she's not right. It still has the same # of calories per slice, toasted or untoasted.
