I drove to a store and went in. When I came out, I could put the key in, put could not turn it. I have tried two different keys. I have tried jiggling the steering wheel. It won't lock. I can move it side to side. I've tried moving the Jeep out of park. It won't. I've moved the steering column up and down, moving the key around as I'm turning it. I'm out of ideas, short of towing it to a dealership or repair shop.

Don't just "jiggle" the steering wheel. Pull hard on it each way while you are trying to turn the key. It'll go!

Is there an internal "kill chip" in the keys/ignition that has gone bad? We have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the chip in the key died -- had to buy a new key -- and the symptoms resembled yours. Once in a while, I curb the wheels too aggressively (we live in a hilly town) and the steering wheel locks. I have to literally, lean on the steering wheel with all of my weight and, with one arm free to jiggle the key, I move the steering wheel back and forth in that locked position. There is some play to the steering wheel when it's locked like that -- could that be your dilemma too? Try leaning forward onto the steering wheel and hug it. Then move your right arm down and jiggle the key. I hope that it works for you, too. Good luck!

They make a Graphite Powder and you may try dusting a little of it into the ignition. When you squeeze the tube it in it will dust.
