I mean I take pretty good care of my teeth, but I do still have some trouble. I grew up in a small town with an old school dentist that did not believe in any kind of anesthesia. When we went to his office, we came out looking like we'd been butchered. Since then, I just HATE going to dentists. I finally muscled up enough strength to go and I regretted it more than anything. The dentist I went to wasn't giving me "advice" or "tips", he was flat out talking $hit about me and my "lack of concern for my teeth". He was saying things like "do you think you're teeth take care of themselves" and "how about you wait another twenty years before you come back and let's see what we have to work with then". This a$$hole seems to have forgotton that I'm the one PAYING his a$$!

What pisses me off even more is that I didn't even say anything because my nerves were shot from walking in the office in the first place. Now, I have to look for another dentist. Hell, maybe I should just get dentures...

Chopstick, that's bullShit! I could understand if I wasn't PAYING him! The guy I went to was an actual Dentist. Do you honestly think downing your patient is good dentistry? If you don't like what you do, then get the heck out of the business. If ALL people took care of their teeth, they wouldn't have a damned job!!

That's crap that you would say that about Dental Hygienist! They did not just take a brief course. And somebody has to worry about your teeth if your not going to! Do you think it's pleasant to have to scrape old food of off some one else's teeth?? Well, it's not. And when that's what you do every day you try to say what you can to raise the patients concern for their own oral hygiene. They are trying to help. Sometimes you have to be blunt to get your point across.

I didn't say that the way he went about it was appropriate and what I said was more towards the guy talking crap about Hygienist. It gets aggravating to see people not taking care of their teeth. And part of his job is to try and get patients to have better oral hygiene. Do you really think Dentists are sitting around hoping that more people will be nasty so they can get paid? Well, your wrong. Most people who work anywhere near teeth actually care about their patients and what kind of hygiene they have. They wouldn't have gone to school for it if they didn't have a ginuine interest in teeth! Part of my job is to instruct people on hygiene and it makes me so happy when a patient that I sat and went over brushing and flossing with has great oral hygiene! It really really matters to me! I want people to have healthy good looking teeth! I'm also careful about the way I correct people on their brushing because I don't want to offend them or hurt their feelings. If you don't like what he says, go somewhere else. I also think you seem rude.
And if your not paying someone and they feel the need to comment on your hygiene, that's even worse sweet heart.

Even worse than the dentist who says that is the dental hygienist who says things like that. Just because she took a brief course majoring in tooth scrubbing with a minor in flossing she feels she is qualified to say "Do you want to lose those teeth from lack of proper cleaning?" It makes you want to come back with a reply like "Yes - then I won't have to put up with crap from people like you."

They've got one hand in your mouth and the other in your wallet while they distract you with insults.
